Chapter 49 Treat This Place As Your Own Home
Amanda ran to the alley entrance and panted while leaning on the mottled wall.
She touched her chest, trying to calm her racing heart, but as soon as she closed her eyes, the scene of Iverson kissing her replayed in her mind, and her lips were still warm.
“Amanda.”
Iverson’s voice came from behind. Amanda suddenly panicked, and the high heels under her feet tilted.
“Ahhh~~~.”
With a cry of surprise, she was firmly held by a pair of giant hands.
“Are you alright?”
Amanda tried to push him away in a hurry, but before she could steady herself, she fell into Iverson’s arms, her face pressed against his chest.
For a moment, the air was quiet.
Above her head came Iverson’s voice. “I didn’t expect you to be so interested in this part.”
Amanda took a deep breath, and then she choked.
“Cough, cough cough…”
“Slow down.” Iverson patted her back to soothe her anger.
Amanda blushed. “Who’s interested in this part?”
“Are you interested in the other part of my body?”
“You!”
Amanda was furious. She shook his hand, but before getting rid of him, she was caught by Iverson. Iverson carried her in his arms.
“What are you doing? Let me go!”
“Isn’t your shoe broken?”
“It’s not broken!”
“Even if your shoes are not broken, I’m still worried. You can fall on the spot.”
“I was scared by you! Let go of me! The neighbors are watching us!” Amanda panicked.
There were a lot of people living in the alley. Iverson was shameless, but she needed respect!
“I won’t take responsibility if you keep moving while you fall.”
“Ah-” Amanda cried out in surprise, subconsciously wrapping her arms around Iverson’s neck.
The man’s eyes were offish, but they had a faint arc.
Iverson carried Amanda into the house and placed her on a chair in front of Mrs. Elder Jewell and Aaron.
“Mom, Aaron, it’s a misunderstanding,” Amanda hurriedly explained. “My shoe is broken.”
“Your shoe is broken?”
Mrs. Elder Jewell and Aaron glanced at her high heels at the same time and nodded tacitly.
“It really broke just now. It’s…”
“All right, I see. Your shoe is broken.” Mrs. Elder Jewell interrupted her immediately. She didn’t want to hear Amanda’s words at all. “All right, all right, don’t bother. The dumplings are going to get cold. Wash your hands and eat.”
“Iverson, have a seat. Sit next to Amanda.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
“Treat this place as your own home.”
Amanda glanced at her mother and said grumpily, “Mom, do you know what his parents look like?”
Their small mahjong club was probably not even as big as the bathroom at Iverson’s house.
“Iverson wouldn’t dislike the simplicity of my house, would you?”
“Of course not.” There was no emotion in Iverson’s eyes at all. “It’s my honor to have a taste of your cooking.”
“Look at Iverson. He’s so talkative and doesn’t put on any airs.” Mrs. Elder Jewell nudged Amanda. “I heard from his assistant. Thanks to Iverson’s help in your lawsuit against the Sean Family’s ungrateful bastard, you managed to keep such a straight face. You’re not sensible at all. Hurry up and serve Iverson some food.”
Amanda was bothered by her mother’s nagging, and she reluctantly picked up a piece of pork rib for Iverson. “Eat more.”
The sooner he was complete, the earlier he could leave.
Iverson also picked up a piece for her. “You should eat more, too.”
Amanda was stunned, and her hair stood on end.
Mrs. Elder Jewell was over the moon, and her eyes were shining. It was obvious that she found her son-in-law more and more pleasing to the eye.
After dinner, Amanda was pulled to the bedroom by his brother.Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
“Amanda, are you really dating him?”
“Mom is crazy about money, and you’re making a fuss?” Amanda poked Aaron’s head and growled, “Which eye saw me in love with him?”
“Then you were…”
Aaron crumpled her hands and bumped them together. “Kissing.”
Amanda blushed violently. “That… that was an accident!”
“How could there be so many accidents?” Aaron frowned, looking like a mature young man. “Amanda, you’ve just divorced. I understand that it’s not easy for you to be alone. Still, if you want to remarry, you’d better keep your eyes open and think about it carefully.”
Seeing his younger brother’s worried expression, Amanda felt warmth in her heart. She patted his shoulder and said. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. You should study hard. Whether you want to take the postgraduate entrance examination domestically or go abroad, it’s up to you. I’m rich now.”
Aaron shook her head. “I want to work as soon as possible after graduating.”
Although Mrs. Elder Jewell was a troublemaker, Amanda’s brother had been very sensible since he was a child. Amanda cared about him and hoped he could have a promising future.
“Let’s talk about this later. I suggest that you go abroad to study and see the world.”
Amanda didn’t continue to talk about this topic. She looked at the time and said, “It’s getting late. I have to go now.”
After entering the bedroom, Amanda heard Mrs. Elder Jewell talking to Iverson. To be exact, she was doing the Gallup poll.
“Iverson, who else is there in your family? How are your parents?”
“My parents divorced, and my mother was abroad. My father passed away in his early years because of illness. There were my grandmother and a half-brother at home.”
Iverson’s words made Amanda’s heart skip a beat.
Was he the same as her, having lost his father long ago?
“A half-brother. Then, your family ties are slightly more complicated.”
“I usually live alone and don’t live with them.”
“I see. That’s good, then…”
“Mom!” Amanda interrupted her mother’s interrogation in time and forced a smile on her face. “Mom, Mr. Byran has already eaten. It’s getting late, and he still has something to do. He has to go.”
“That’s not a big deal. Since you are here, why don’t you leave after dinner? I’ll make some noodles tonight.”
“You’re really busy, aren’t you, Mr. Byran?”
Amanda winked at Iverson desperately.
Iverson raised his eyebrows slightly with a rare trace of melancholy in his eyes. “I don’t have much to do today.”
Amanda was speechless.
“Does this man a quack medicine? Why can’t I get rid of him?”
“How come you don’t have anything to do? The development project is just around the corner. Have you forgotten, Mr. Byran? We have a meeting in the afternoon.”
“Project meeting? Is it today?”
“Yes, today!” Amanda grabbed Iverson and led him out of the room. “Let’s go. It’ll be too late if we don’t go now.”
“Hey, what meeting is so important?” Mrs. Elder Jewell chased them to the door but failed to stop them.
Aaron came out of the house and stopped Mrs. Elder Jewell. “Mom, you don’t have to worry about my sister.”
“If I don’t care about my daughter, who will? Women are afraid of marrying the wrong person. I have to check on her.”
“Weren’t you in charge of the wedding ceremony when Amanda married Halley?”
Aaron’s words rendered Mrs. Elder Jewell speechless.
Looking at her son’s impassive face, Mrs. Elder Jewell shut her mouth in embarrassment. She felt she had not given birth to a son but an ancestor!
