Chapter 48 So You’re Jealous
Although Mrs. Elder Jewel loved money and had gambling habits, she had educated the two children well. Especially Aaron, who was always fussy about integrity. Even Mrs. Elder Jewel was a little afraid of him.
Amanda knew that if she told Aaron that Iverson was getting married but still came to harass her, he would never cling to him like a mother. Not to mention that Iverson was the president of the Byran Group; even if he was the wealthiest man in the world, it would be useless.
Amanda hung up the phone with satisfaction.
By the time she got home, Iverson would have already been driven away by Aaron.
Half an hour later, Amanda walked toward the mahjong club with her bag.
A “closed” sign was hung at the door of the mahjong club.
Amanda stood at the door and smelled the dumplings. She suddenly wanted to cry.
After marrying into the Sean Family for three years, she rarely returned to her parent’s home. She was busy with work. On the other hand, her mother-in-law didn’t like her returning to her mother’s home. To avoid contradictions, she came back very rarely. She couldn’t remember when she last ate dumplings made by her mother at home.
“Mom, I’m back.”
Amanda pushed the door open and saw Aaron cleaning up the table.
Hearing the sound, Mrs. Elder Jewell came out of the kitchen with an apron. When she saw Amanda, her face lit up with joy. “Oh, you came back with the good smell. Go and wash your hands. Then you can eat.”
Amanda gave Aaron a questioning look.
“What’s going on?”
Aaron had chased Iverson away, but why was his mother still so happy as if nothing had happened?
As she wondered, the kitchen curtain was lifted, and a tall figure came out with a plate of dumplings. “Auntie, where should we put the dumplings?”
A flat and deep male voice echoed in the room.
Amanda’s brain buzzed, and her eyes widened. “Mr. Byran? How did you…”
Iverson was dressed in dark grey casual clothes, looking calm and noble, which did not fit in with the mahjong club.
“How can I let you serve the dishes? Iverson, please take a seat.” Mrs. Elder Jewell took the plate over enthusiastically and invited Iverson to sit. “Amanda. Why are you still in a daze? There are guests at home. You should greet him quickly. Aaron, come in with me to serve the dishes.”
Amanda grabbed Aaron, who was walking past her and lowered her voice. “What’s going on?”
Aaron said awkwardly, “Amanda, it’s a long story.”
“You betrayed me!”
“It’s not a betrayal; it’s a misunderstanding.”
“What misunderstanding? You told me to drive him away!”
Before Aaron could reply, Amanda felt the atmosphere was tense. An indifferent voice came from behind her. “It seems you’re not welcoming me to your house for dinner?”
Amanda’s expression froze.
Aaron immediately pushed Amanda’s hand away and slipped away. “I’ll get the vinegar.”
Only Amanda and Iverson were left in the dining room.
Amanda froze for a long time before finally clenching her fists and turning around. With a stern expression, she said, “Mr. Byran, our room is tiny, so that not suitable for you here.”
She was angry.
Iverson looked around and said, “This mahjong club is small. So I plan to find a bigger shop for your mother in the city center to redecorate it for her to open a card room.”
Hearing that, Amanda was even angrier. “What do you mean?”
“Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you have money? Do you think that as long as the conditions you offer are good enough, you can bribe everyone in our family?”
The more Amanda spoke, the angrier she became. “You opened a new card room for my mother? What about my brother? Are you going to send him abroad? What will you do if I have other relatives and friends?”
“I’ve thought about what you said.”
“Iverson Byran!”
For the first time, Amanda called out his full name. Her fists trembled slightly, and she gritted her teeth. “Who do you think I am? Am I someone who can exchange sex for benefits?”
“Do you think I need to spend so much effort and money to find such a person?”
“Then what do you mean? You’re getting married. Why are you still bothering me?”
“Who told you that I’m getting married?”
“Lydia said it herself.”
“Oh? Lydia said?” Iverson didn’t even frown. He looked at Amanda calmly and said, “The day you met her in my office?”
“That’s right,” Amanda huffed. “I’ve seen a lot of people had mistresses. I don’t care how you rich people play. I don’t lack money or pursuers. Stop dreaming!”
“No wonder you didn’t reply to my message after that day.”
The corners of Iverson’s eyes curved upwards. “What else did she tell you? Did she tell you who I’m marrying?”
“I don’t want to know. It has nothing to do with me!”
“What if I say it has something to do with you?”
Amanda was stunned.
Iverson suddenly approached her.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“What, what do you mean?”
“So that’s why you’ve been avoiding me these past two days?”
“What are you doing?”
Seeing that he was getting closer and closer, Amanda’s heart beat faster and faster. She stepped back subconsciously, but her calf hit the cabinet behind her. As she staggered, her waist was suddenly held by Iverson.
A flat, deep male voice came from above her head without waiting for her to break free. “Are you jealous?”
“Jealousy?” Amanda denied it and struggled angrily. “If you don’t let go, I’ll call someone!”
“Amanda, ” Iverson suddenly pulled her closer to him, grabbed her hand, and pressed it against the cabinet door, making a loud noise.
He got straight to the point. “Listen up. You’re the one I’m going to marry.”
Amanda was stunned and couldn’t believe it.
Iverson looked at the stunned woman. Her eyes were as clear and bright as deer’s, and they shone with faint summer light. They were as fragile as crystal and made people love her dearly.
At this moment, Iverson’s emotions overwhelmed his rationality. He couldn’t help but lean over and kiss her on the lips.
Amanda’s mind went blank.
Her struggling strength seemed to have been drained in an instant, and the hand pressed against the cabinet door loosened, holding the man’s slender fingers.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang, and the door frame hit the wall with a loud noise.
Amanda abruptly came back to her senses.
At the kitchen door, Mrs. Elder Jewell was holding the door handle. Behind her, Aaron was half a head taller than her. He lifted the curtain with one hand and had a bottle of vinegar with the other hand. They were staring at them blankly.
Mrs. Elder Jewell was the first to come back to her senses and tried to cover her eyes. “I… I just wanted to close the door for you… I didn’t expect this door hasn’t been closed all year round. It’s not very obedient.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. We didn’t see anything!”
As she spoke, she covered Aaron’s eyes. “Aaron didn’t see you either. Neither did we! Go on!”
“Go on?”
Amanda’s face instantly turned bright red. She wished she could find a hole to hide in.
“What… what’s going on?”
“Huh? Amanda, where are you going?”
“Auntie, don’t worry. I’ll go after her.”
