Chapter 605 Tool
Chapter 605 Tool
A shiver ran up Lydia's spine, leaving her limbs cold and trembling.
She stared at Riley in disbelief, as if she didn't recognize her daughter.
In her mind, Riley had always been a gentle and obedient girl, as pliable as dough, never showing any temper.
How could her own daughter harm her?
Everything Lydia did was for Riley, for the sake of their family.
She believed that her actions were flawless. She never imagined that anyone would be the reason Riley's allergies were acting up.
Even if someone did discover the truth, she was confident.
After all, she was Riley's biological mother.
And Riley was kind-hearted and easy-going.
She had thought that if Riley found out the truth, she would cry and get angry. But she believed that with Riley's personality, as long as she comforted and patiently explained, she would understand and forgive her.
She never expected Riley to utter such words.
She stared at Riley in shock as if she didn't recognize her. After a long silence, she shakily retorted, "You're insane... You're insane! I am your biological mother. You can't treat me like this... You can't!"
"You're the one who's insane, not me." Riley shuddered at the thought of her own appearance caused by her biological mother. "You don't deserve to be my mother. You...you're heartless. I don't have a
mother like you."
Riley's heart was filled with hatred as she recalled the suffering and despair she had endured these days.
If it was someone else instead of Lydia who had done all this, Riley would even wish to perish with that person.
However, this was Lydia, her biological mother. Riley couldn't possibly do something like that.
Yet, her hatred for her mother grew stronger.
She couldn't comprehend how such a heartless person could exist.
How could a woman be so cruel to her own flesh and blood?
She couldn't wrap her head around it. Lydia, on the other hand, felt as if she had been struck by thunder.
Her own daughter was accusing her of being heartless!
"You... You..." She trembled, unable to form a coherent sentence.
"Choose." Riley sneered. "Cut ties with me, or I'll report you for intentional harm. Choose one."
"No, I won't choose!" Lydia shook her head. "You are my biological daughter, and I am your biological mother. Everything I have done is for your own good. You can't treat me like this..."
Riley stared at her for a while before she turned to the police officers. "I want to sue her for drugging me, I—"
"Riley, have you lost your mind?" Lydia rushed forward, raising her hand to slap Riley.
However, someone grabbed her by her wrist.
Derek stood in front of Riley, firmly holding Lydia's wrist. His gaze was cold and sharp, like an icy blade.
He then forcefully pushed Lydia away and slowly warned, "I said, no one is allowed to harm my loved ones!"
Lydia stumbled back a few steps, nearly falling to the ground.
Derek remained still, looking at her coldly, his face devoid of any expression.
Lydia's gaze darted from Derek to Riley. She felt as if she were standing naked in a blizzard, feeling the bone-chilling cold seep into her body.
She only had one son and one daughter.
Her son was not close to her at all, as he was raised by her ex-husband. However, her daughter used to be obedient and listened to everything she said.
But now...
No.
They can't treat me like this.
They are my children.
I am their biological mother!
How can they do this to me?! Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
"Officer!" Riley stood tall, her voice louder. "I want to sue her for drugging me!"
"I will cut ties with you!" Afraid, Lydia shouted in a strained voice.
That one sentence seemed to drain all her strength.
Her legs weakened, and she dropped to the floor sobbing. "How could you treat me like this? You are ungrateful and heartless. You will be struck by lightning…"
Martin, who had been silent for a long time, stated coldly, "The heavens won't strike good people. If they do, they will strike the evil ones who broke the law first. Those who fear the police will be struck first!"
"You, get out of here!" Lydia cursed like a madwoman. "This is our family's business; it has nothing to do with you. Get out! Get out!"
Riley looked at Martin and whispered, "Thank you for standing up for me, but don't defend me anymore. She has gone mad. Don't let her curse you again."
Martin shrugged indifferently. "Being cursed by bad people means that I am a good person."
With the corners of her lips tugged, Riley retrieved pen and paper from the vanity table drawer before she wrote down the details of today's events. After she emphasized her desire to sever the mother- daughter relationship with Lydia, she signed her name at the bottom.
She then handed the paper and pen to Lydia. "Sign your name on it. Don't ever come looking for me again, or else I will use it to sue you."
The paper clearly outlined how Lydia had harmed her with pollen.
After reading it, Lydia trembled all over, her eyes bloodshot as if she had seen a ghost. "You're insane... You're seriously crazy..."
How could her obedient and filial daughter treat her like this if she were sane?
Riley didn't have the energy to argue with her. She simply instructed, "Sign it. Don't worry. I won't deduct a single penny from the alimony you deserve even when you're old and immobile."
Either from rage or fear, Lydia trembled like a leaf in the wind.
Alimony?
The Lynch Family was considered wealthy. They would never lack money for anything.
Was money what she needed?
What she lacked was an outstanding and obedient child, a gentle and filial companion, and considerate care and concern.
What use would all the money be if there was no one to accompany or take care of her when she grew old and couldn't walk anymore?
A strange fear invaded her heart, and she trembled as she persuaded, "Riley, you can't treat me like this. I am your biological mother, and you are the one I painstakingly raised. I poured all my efforts into you for half of my life. You can't be so heartless—"
"'Painstakingly?'" Riley sneered, her lips curling up. "When? The maid was the one who cooked and did the laundry for me, and the chauffeur was the one who drove me to school. Where did you invest your efforts? If your so-called efforts were focused on money… Don't worry. When you're old, I will repay you double for every penny you spent on me."
Lydia broke down. She screamed at the top of her lungs, "If it wasn't for me raising you with so much dedication, could you have grown up like this? Riley, you can't be so cruel to me!"
"You raised me because you loved me, right?" Riley stared at her intently. "I used to think so, but now I know it's not true.
"You didn't raise me out of love; I was merely a tool for you. When you were young and beautiful, I was a tool for you to please your husband and stepdaughter. And now that you're old, I'm a tool for you to rely on in your old age. You raised me not out of love but out of necessity."
She snickered. "Now, the tool has awakened and no longer wants to be a tool."
She glanced at the paper and pen in Lydia's hand. "Sign it. I feel sad, and I want to leave here as soon as possible. I don't want to waste any more time with you... If you don't sign it, I'll let the police take you away."
Lydia proceeded to cry and cause a scene, desperately pleading. Even so, neither Derek nor Riley showed any concern.
In the end, Lydia had no choice but to sign her name on the proof of severed ties that Riley had written.
