You, Me and Our Genius Twins

Chapter 585 Killing Two Birds With One Stone

Chapter 585 Killing Two Birds With One Stone

Lucas was rendered speechless. He never expected that Dr. Leigh Shefford not only had exceptional medical skills but also had a talent for tongue twisters!

He sighed in resignation and confessed, "I've always known that I've had feelings for you. That's why I've been entangled with you all this time. I don't want to escape anymore because I've realized I can't bear losing you..."

He gazed into Leigh's eyes and spoke earnestly, "I used to deny our relationship before, not because I didn't know I liked you, but because I was afraid of holding you back and not being able to make you happy. But now, I've made up my mind. I'll change anything about myself that isn't good... You have a different character from my mom. Even though I may have inherited my dad's genes and have the potential to become a jerk, I believe you won't give me the chance to become one..."

"That makes sense!" Leigh chuckled and glanced down meaningfully at a certain part of him. "If you dare ever to become a jerk..."

Dr. Leigh Shefford, could you be more subtle? Lucas thought.

He couldn't help but sigh and ruffle her head. "I won't."

"Of course, I know you won't." Leigh nestled into his arms. "I could tell from the first day I met you that you were a good person!"

She wrapped her uninjured arm around his neck, happily looking up at him. "Otherwise, how could I have fallen in love with you? You seem like a good guy!"

Lucas laughed. "Isn't the 'good person card' given to those who strike out?"

"I'm not that naïve!" Leigh gave him a peck and said, "Since you're a good man, of course, I should hold onto you, claim you as mine. Why should I give you to someone else?"

Lucas pondered momentarily and nodded. "That makes sense!"

The same principle applied to him. Of course, a good woman should also be claimed as one's own. How could one bear to give her to someone else?

He lowered his head and kissed Leigh, carefully avoiding her injured arm, and embraced her gently.

His embrace, with her warmth and tenderness, filled his heart with a newfound sweetness and contentment he had never experienced before. It turned out that taking this step was easier than he had imagined. After making up his mind, he no longer felt troubled or hesitant. Instead, he was filled with profound happiness and anticipation for the future.

"Thank you, Leigh..." he whispered, kissing her head.

"Thank me for what?" she murmured with her eyes closed.

Lucas smiled and kissed her again but remained silent.

Thank you for making me fall in love and allowing me to experience the sweetness of love. Thank you for helping me decide to marry and have children, just like an ordinary person. Thank you for showing me that our path together is so beautiful...

After another half an hour, Madeline knocked on the door and entered. Leigh ate the midnight snack Madeline had brought and soon fell asleep. Once she was sound asleep, Madeline gestured to Lucas, and they quietly left Leigh's bedroom.

Madeline whispered, "Sebastian has caught the culprit, and he has something to tell you. I'll watch over Leigh. You should go see him."

"Okay, thank you, Madeline," Lucas said. "Has Sebastian returned?"

"Yes." Madeline nodded and replied in a hushed manner, "He's in the living room now."

He glanced back at Leigh once more and quickly left.

No matter who wanted to take his life tonight, he would make them pay with their life!

He hurriedly walked and pushed open the door to the living room, where his three brothers were waiting.

Upon seeing him enter, Kieran greeted him, "Lucas, have a seat."

He walked over, sat next to Kieran, and looked at Sebastian sitting across from him. "Sebastian, so who wants to kill me?"

Before Sebastian could answer, Kieran interrupted, "Guess who?"

Lucas was momentarily left speechless. He had narrowly escaped death, and his third brother still

acted carefree and lighthearted. Did he even care about their brotherhood?

However, since Kieran asked him to guess, it meant that there were clues for him to follow. In other words, the person who tried to kill him was someone he could think of.

A glint of coldness flickered in his eyes. "Martha?"

Martha, his stepmother, was the person who wished for him to disappear from this world the most.

"You're half right," Kieran remarked. "It's Cynthia."

"Cynthia..." Lucas contemplated the name.

Cynthia was the second daughter of Martha and his despicable father.

They had five daughters in total: the eldest daughter, Isabella Griffin; the second daughter, Cynthia Griffin; the third daughter, Jordan Griffin; the fourth daughter, Charlie Griffin; and the fifth daughter, Quinn Griffin.

The names of the first two daughters were fairly typical, but starting with the third daughter, it became unusual.

Jordan, Charlie, Quinn – from these three names, which sounded like names for boys, one can see how much Martha desired a son.

Prominent families all hoped to have a son to carry on the family line, but they wouldn't express it so blatantly. Only the Griffins made their intention obvious, and ironically, they didn't even have a single

male heir, becoming the laughingstock of high society.

Martha was obsessed with having a son but ended up giving birth to five daughters in a row and losing her ability to conceive. She couldn't have a son, so the only male in the Griffin family became a thorn in her side.

Even though Lucas didn't bear the Griffin surname, Martha still wanted to get rid of him.

Last time, her eldest daughter, Isabella, failed to harm him and was sent to prison for attempted murder, likely never to be released in this lifetime.

This time, it was Cynthia who made the move. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Martha's five daughters wouldn't come one by one to kill him, would they?

Lucas smirked with a cold smile on his face.

Kieran patted his shoulder. "Although Cynthia was the mastermind behind tonight's incident, dealing with her is a bit complicated."

Lucas looked at him, waiting for an explanation.

Kieran did not beat around the bush. "Although Cynthia was the mastermind, she didn't directly do it herself. She has a persistent pursuer obsessed with her, and that's where the problem lies…" He pointed to his temple with his long, grateful index finger. "His name is Skylar Gavin, and he's paranoid. Cynthia dislikes him, but he keeps bothering her relentlessly. As a matter of fact, Skylar was the one who hired the person who tried to assassinate you tonight. Based on our current clues, Cynthia was not

directly involved."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Did she plan to kill two birds with one stone?"

"That's what Sebastian and I believe," Kieran said, glancing at Sebastian. "Cynthia couldn't tolerate Skylar's persistent pursuit but didn't want to offend the Gavin Family. So, she deliberately displayed her disgust towards you in front of Skylar, which prompted him to hire someone to kill you, hoping to gain her favor..."

"Just like how Martha had her eldest daughter attempt to kill me without actually doing it herself?" Lucas sneered. "It seems like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She learned these tactics pretty quickly."

"Cynthia probably saw the advantages in this," Kieran said. "Although that idea to kill you clearly originated from Martha, she managed to escape any punishment while Isabella was the only one in jail. Cynthia probably thought letting Skylar eliminate you was a good idea. She could not only end Skylar's harassment but also get rid of you simultaneously, killing two birds with one stone."
