CHAPTER 465
Chapter 465
Sophia hesitated for a moment, then she let it out.
With a sigh, her voice slightly choked, “It’s aplastic anemia.”
Gilbert’s heart skipped a beat!
Even though he had a hunch that Jenna was battling a serious illness, the confirmation hit
him hard.
Holding the tiny bundle in his arms, Gilbert found it suddenly hard to breathe.
She was so young, how could she endure this?
Gilbert held the little one super gently, like she was made of glass. He looked all worried that he might hurt her, his brows all scrunched up. “You came today for…?” Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
“Ah…” Sophia sighed, cleaning her tears. “We’re here for a hospital check–up. It’s been a tough morning, and Jenna’s just so little…”
Gilbert understood – Jenna was feeling unwell.
Picking up the little girl, he gently asked, “Jenna, can you tell me where it hurts?”
Jenna pondered for a moment then shook her head, “Don’t know.”
Her lips trembled, tears starting to fall, “Uncomfortable, sir, I feel really bad.”
“Okay, okay.” Gilbert didn’t dare to press further, “I know it. Jenna, don’t cry. I’m right here with you.”
“Okay!” Jenna burrowed into his embrace.
Gilbert, worried she might be in pain, glanced at Sophia, “Where’s her room?”
“Sir, please follow me.”
Upon reaching the room, Gilbert’s expression was grave, “Go call the doctor!”
It was crucial to have Jenna checked by a professional to ease his worries.
“Right away.” Sophia nodded firmly and hurried off.
Elijah, who had been on standby, rushed over upon hearing the news and conducted a check–up on Jenna.
Patting her head, he praised, “Jenna, you’re so brave for completing the check–up.”
He then produced a magic wand as a reward, “Here, I promised you! A reward!”
“Thank you, sir.” Jenna took it, her enthusiasm dampened, far from her initial excitement.
Gilbert, with a stern face, glanced at Elijah. “Are you sure, Jenna’s okay?”
14:33
“Uh, yes.” Elijah nodded, puzzled by Gilbert’s intense demeanor and unsure of his relation
to Jenna.
But sensing Gilbert’s imposing aura, he explained further, “It’s natural for children to feel discomfort during exams due to their low tolerance.”
“Got it.”
Gilbert nodded, somewhat appeased, yet his concern was evident.
He tried to lay Jenna down, thinking it might make her more comfortable.
“Wha-!” Jenna’s lips puckered immediately, “Sir, hold me! Don’t you like Jenna anymore?”
Sophia, feeling awkward, suggested, “Maybe I should hold her? Kids tend to seek comfort in hugs when they’re not feeling well.”
Is that so?
Unfamiliar with such nuances but willing to do whatever it took, Gilbert refused to let go.
“I’ll hold her.”
Gilbert shook his head, not letting go, and continued to soothe Jenna.
“Sorry, Jenna. I didn’t realize. How could I not like Jenna?” As he spoke, he walked around the room with Jenna in his arms. “I love Jenna the most.”
He then looked at Sophia, seeking approval with his eyes… Was this okay?
Sophia, with teary eyes, nodded vigorously.
Without needing her confirmation, Gilbert could tell. Holding her this way, Jenna seemed much more at peace.
“Sir.” Nestled in his arms, Jenna spoke up again, her voice weak.
“Hmm?” Gilbert looked down, “What is it?”
“Strawberry milk.” Jenna sounded shy, “Jenna wants strawberry milk.”
“Oh no!” Gilbert closed his eyes in frustration, “I’m so silly for not bringing any!”
The guilt was genuine, radiating from his heart
