Chapter 93

"Is it really that fancy?" Emma Johnson's expression was a mix of innocence and confusion, followed by a light laugh, "So in Ms. Brooks's eyes, a cruise party is considered a high-end event..."
Her sarcastic tone caused Olivia Brooks's face to turn sour.
"Emma, don't get ahead of yourself. Just because you tagged along with Ethan to some cruise party doesn't mean your status has changed. If it weren't for my injured arm and Ethan worrying I'd overexert myself, you wouldn't even have a chance to be here." Olivia furrowed her brows, looking down at Emma with a haughty gaze.
She coldly set down the menu with a smirk, feeling speechless; Olivia had never believed a word Emma said.
Even though Emma had declared multiple times that she had long since lost all feelings for Ethan Carter and wouldn't be involved with him again, Olivia refused to accept it.
"What are you laughing at?"
Olivia's tone was filled with dissatisfaction.
"Nothing, just didn't expect Ms. Brooks to be so insecure. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my time being suspicious. You'd be better off thinking of ways to please Grandpa. Carter."
Emma smirked, her words striking a nerve with Olivia.
Olivia's delicate face twisted in a frightening mix of jealousy, "Emma, you little bitch." She directly splashed the red wine in her glass towards Emma.
Emma barely had time to react and got drenched.
"What are you doing, you

after Olivia's outburst, it plummeted again. She didn't even feel like eating dinner anymore, but she didn't want Summer to worry, so she forced herself to finish a bit before heading out. After taking a cab home, Emma stepped out of the elevator and immediately saw a tall figure in the hallway.
She froze, completely unprepared for Ethan Carter's arrival.
His face was stormy, his eyes gleaming with a chilling intensity as he strode towards Emma with long strides.
Emma instinctively took two steps back, "What... what do you want?" Fear flickered in her eyes.
"Why did you leave without a word? Why the hurry to get out? What exactly were you up to?"
Ethan fixed his gaze on her, as if he were interrogating a suspect.
"I didn't do anything; I just didn't want to stay there anymore."
Emma avoided his piercing stare, responding nonchalantly.
To Ethan, her answer felt evasive, as if she was hiding something.
"I want the truth. What were you really doing?"
Ethan's tone grew even colder, his expression dark enough to seem as if it could drip water.
"Mr. Carter, are you saying I have no personal freedom after joining Carter Corporation?" Emma's irritation flared up; she felt no need to report her whereabouts to him. "You vanished during work hours, that counts as being absent without leave." Ethan found himself at a loss for a more persuasive response to her challenge.
