Chapter 48 Why Are You Here
Maria didn’t know that the banquet hall was on the thirty-sixth floor until they arrived at the Viton Hotel.
"It's so high up?" Maria asked curiously as she pushed Anthony's wheelchair into the elevator, followed closely by Jack.
"There is still some time before the banquet officially begins. We can go to my suite and rest for a while," Anthony suggested.
When the elevator doors opened on the thirty-sixth floor, Jack led the way.He took out a key card and opened Suite 3601 for the couple.
Suite 3601 was a presidential suite on the same floor as the banquet hall.
It was exclusive to Anthony all year around, which means that he could come and stay here as he liked at any time.
The presidential suite was as luxuriously decorated and furnished as a palace would be.
The floor was lined with soft, four-inch-thick carpet.
If someone stepped on it barefoot, they would feel like they were walking on a cloud.
Watching Maria walk into the presidential suite, Jack decided that even if her reaction was a bit unrefined, he would pretend like he didn't notice anything.
After all, she grew up in a small town and could not have been to such a high- end hotel before, let alone the presidential suite.
It was hardly a few seconds later when he discovered that his worry was unnecessary.
Maria walked into the grand presidential suite with an air of indifference, as if she was walking into her own home.
There was not the slightest hint of surprise or awe on her face.
Her beautiful eyes were as calm as a lake, as if all the opulent things in front of her weren't even worth mentioning.
"I'm hungry. Can I get something to eat first?"
Maria suddenly asked.
Jack was rendered speechless. No matter what, it was odd that Maria wasn't overwhelmed or intimidated by the presidential suite at all.
Rather, the first thought in her head seemed to be satisfying her hunger.
"Well, Miss Jenkins, the banquet hall is on the right side of the corridor.Shall I bring you some food?" Jack asked carefully.
Maria shook her head.
"That won't be necessary.I can do it myself."
She had been taking care of herself since she was a child, and didn't feel comfortable letting anyone serve her.
"What about you? Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
Being a considerate woman, Maria didn't forget her fiance, Anthony.
"Just bring me a bit of whatever you're eating, thank you," Anthony replied simply. He was still sitting in the wheelchair, committed to his act.
Jack inwardly heaved a sigh, seeing how polite and respectful the two of them were towards each other.
He had never seen his boss like this before.
Maria left the suite and walked towards the banquet hall naturally, as if she had been here many times before.
As soon as she entered the hall, all eyes turned to her. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
As with any banquet, most of the guests here were looking to make new connections and associate themselves with powerful people.
So any time a new guest entered the hall, everyone present would turn towards them to size them up.
Judging from Maria's plain clothing, all the guests concluded that she couldn't be anyone powerful or influential.
If anything, she looked like she came from a normal family.
As quickly as they had turned to Maria, they turned away, although a few of the men had to admit that they were awestruck by her beauty.
Of course, there was no way they could stoop to talking to a "commoner" like Maria, but they couldn't help stealing glances at her from time to time, either.
The long buffet table, which had been custom-made for the occasion, was lined with mouthwatering dishes.
Ignoring the gazes of the other guests, Maria grabbed a plate and began filling it with food.
When the plate was full, she took another plate and proceeded to fill it with the same dishes.
"Hey! What are you doing here?"
There came an arrogant voice all of a sudden.
Maria looked back and saw Vivian walking towards her.
"You'd better speak to your elder sister with respect," Maria said nonchalantly before turning back to the food, as if Vivian didn't deserve any more of her attention.
"Elder sister? Please!"
Vivian scoffed.
"You were jealous that I could come to this party, so you begged Mom for her invitation, right? Maria, you always act like you're better than everyone, but now your true colors are showing."
Julie had offered her invitation to Maria, but Maria had refused.
Now, seeing Maria now, Vivian immediately assumed that Maria was only able to enter the banquet hall because of Julie's invitation.
Maria said one thing and did another.
What a hypocrite!
