Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Cecilia didn’t doubt Christopher at first, but the look in her eyes changed slightly at his question.
It seemed that she had to investigate him thoroughly.
“You’ve warned me before that William might hurt me, and I think it’s most likely to be him. If my
assumption is wrong, it must be Juliana, then. No one wants me dead more than she does.”
Naturally, Christopher didn’t believe what Cecilia said, but he knew that if he asked again, it would only
be
counterproductive.
He could only probe the information out of her if his acting was realistic.
He ordered his men discreetly to choose a suitable place to make their move.
Quilton University was located in the suburbs. As they got closer there, fewer cars and pedestrians
were seen on the road.
Cecilia stared at the car behind her through the rearview mirror.
She glanced at Christopher from the corner of her eyes.
He was casually leaning against the back of his seat. The street lamp shone on his face, highlighting
his features.
“Once we pass another street, the car behind will probably start something,” he said.
There were no pedestrians or cars on the road at that time, but they would reach Quilton University
after passing two more streets, and it would be bustling again.
Therefore, the next intersection was the most suitable ambush point.

Cecilia was a little uncertain whether the person beside her was Christopher or someone else.
She studied his expression but couldn’t discern anything from it.
Christopher said airily, “Don’t worry. I have already informed my people not to cause a commotion
regardless of who it is.”
His tone was casual as though commenting about the weather, but it made people feel at ease.
Cecilia thought, “If it is an act, he’s acting well. He probably has a bright future in the entertainment
industry.”
As their car approached the intersection, the vehicles tailing them suddenly accelerated.
The driver immediately stepped on the accelerator and lowered the partition.
“Mr. Christopher Forte, something is wrong with the car behind.”
He not only worked at Skyhaven Club as a server but had been through rigorous training as
Christopher’s subordinate, so he didn’t panic much.
Christopher’s car had been modified, so sustaining an ordinary collision would be fine.
Christopher looked at Cecilia and asked, “Should I continue to send you back to your condominium, or
should I shake off the tails first?”
“Send me back to the condominium.”
It would only be convenient for her to act once she was separated from Christopher.
Christopher ordered the driver, “Speed up and take Ms. Yancey back to her condominium.”
The driver hesitated for a moment but didn’t give any
comments. “Yes, Mr. Christopher Forte.”

He was not aware that the car following them was arranged by Christopher and wanted to remind him
about the possibility of being ambushed if he took the original route.
However, considering that Christopher was much more. intelligent than him, he didn’t share his
opinion.
The maneuverability of Christopher’s car was excellent, and they quickly pulled away from the vehicles
behind them. Unfortunately, the traffic light at the intersection turned red. The driver subconsciously
stepped on the brake and asked, “Mr. Christopher Forte, do we need to run the red light?” Right after
asking, two beams of dazzling lights suddenly lit up in front of them.
The bright glow consumed the driver’s sight, rendering him momentary blindness. All he could do was
turn right, based on his memory, to avoid the two oncoming cars.
Yet, as soon as he made the turn, his eyes were once again blinded by the dazzling lights.
He immediately closed his eyes to relieve the tingling pain and turned the headlights to the brightest
level.
The glare was much brighter than that of the two incoming
cars.
“Sorry, Mr. Christopher Forte. I turned in the wrong direction.” He saw a white car parked on the left
adjacent road before, so he chose to turn right.
Unexpectedly, he fell into their trap.
Christopher’s expression remained deadpan, but his hand, resting on his leg, gently pinched the
fingertip.
He thought, “Those aren’t my men!”
Then he said, “Turning left will also have the same result. Focus on driving, and stay calm.”

After saying that, he instructed the driver on how to steer the car and narrowly avoided the four
vehicles that were about to surround them.
However, their car was still hit several times.
After a while, the driver recovered his eyesight and didn’t need Christopher’s instructions anymore.
Nevertheless, their situation was still precarious, for the bright light had affected his sight.
Cecilia held the grab handle tightly as her body rocked from side to side. Despite that, she still kept a
watchful gaze at her surroundings.
If an opportunity presented itself, she would roll down the window and jump out of the car.
Christopher saw through Cecilia’s intention and warned, “Don’t act recklessly. My men will arrive soon.
We’ll be fine.”
At that, he swung his gaze to the side mirror.
The car in the back also had its high beam turned on, blurring Christopher’s vision.
However, he noticed that his men’s car might look like it was pursuing them but was sabotaging the
chase.
Unfortunately, lacking backup, it was soon knocked off the road and crashed into the flower bed on the
side.
Luckily, the subordinates Christopher placed near Cecilia’s condominium had rushed over.
He made a phone call to Solomon, who was on his way.
“Come from the west end of Jorden Road and block all intersections. It’ll be like shooting fish in a
barrel.”
“Yes, Mr. Forte.”
Jorden Road was very long but close to the suburbs. There
were not many forks along the road, so it was easy to block it.

Christopher looked at the two cars blocking in front and said to the driver, “Just ram them!”
He had been wanting to ram the vehicle for a while but held it off, fearing Cecilia would be injured if
their car’s power was weaker against the four opposing vehicles.
The driver accelerated and chose a car to ram into.
With a loud bang, the opponent’s car was hit and shoved against the roadside flower bed.
When forced back, the vehicle’s body grated against the
cement flower bed, creating tiny sparks. The engine hood also emitted thick smoke.
The other vehicle finally found a chance and ran into the driver’s side of Christopher’s car.
The man thought, “Once the driver dies, the car will lose control, and the passengers won’t survive the
crash.”
However, he had underestimated Christopher’s car.
He stepped on the accelerator all the way, but it merely pushed Christopher’s car away without causing
any damage to the body, let alone killing anyone.
His own car’s bumper fell off, and the front end was seriously deformed.
Seeing that he couldn’t complete his mission, the man decided
to retreat.
He tapped the emergency light button, flashing the lights several times as a signal.
The cars that could still move immediately retreated according to their pre–planned route.
As a result, they were obstructed by Christopher’s men.
Once the threat had been neutralized, Christopher ordered the driver, “Send Ms. Yancey back to her
condominium.”
After that, he opened the door, ready to get out of the car.

Cecilia hurriedly asked, “Mr. Christopher Forte, are you sending them to the police station or
interrogating them yourself?”
“I’ll interrogate them, then send them to the police station.”
“Their target might be me, so I want to sit in during the interrogation. Is that okay?”
Christopher nodded. “Sure.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Christopher Forte. I will feign deaf to any information that isn’t meant for me.”
“I’m not wary against you.”
Once Christopher finished speaking, he got out of the car.
Cecilia followed.
There were four cars and four desperate men. One of them was seriously injured and unconscious,
while the other had a broken leg and was screaming in agony.
The other two had only sustained mild injuries and could respond to questions.
Christopher glanced at the two men, held to kneel on the ground, and then looked at his watch.
“I’ll give you one minute to think about how to come clean.”
The men on the ground trembled violently with dread as cold sweat drenched their clothes. Despite
being under the hot summer sun, they still felt chills all over their bodies.
The knowledge that they would die or be on the verge of death if they fell into Christopher’s hands
terrified them.
Christopher’s fingers rhythmically tapped the back of his hand as if counting down the minutes to their
death.
However, the two men felt every tap in their hearts, turning their breathing ragged.
As time flowed, a minute passed quickly.

Christopher’s fingers stopped. He gazed coldly at the two men with colors drained from their faces.
“Who sent you? Is your target me or Cecilia?”
He added, “Think before you answer. You only have one
chance to speak.”
