Chapter 1062
Chapter 1062 Go Our Separate Ways
The bodyguard outside the door reported, snapping Bailey back from her wandering thoughts.
Sylvester and Justin came together? Is Justin going to examine Rainie again?
Given his medical expertise, Justin would undoubtedly recognize that Rainie had not experienced a
miscarriage even without the need for an ultrasound or a blood test.
In other words, if Justin discovered it, Sylvester would be informed almost immediately.
Once Sylvester discovered that Rainie did not have a miscarriage, they could not conceal the truth any
longer.
With that thought, she quickly got up and rushed out of the lounge.
She reached the ward quickly because it was nearby.
As she pushed the door open and hurried inside, she observed Justin checking Rainie's pulse with a
profoundly serious expression.
She knew that he had discovered she had not suffered a miscarriage.
“Where's Sylvester?” Bailey asked with a frown.
Justin let go of Rainie's arm, turned to Bailey, and questioned her. “Why did you instruct the hospital to
announce that she has had a miscarriage?”
Bailey regarded him with indifference. She was well aware that Justin would not be easily deceived,
and if she failed to offer him a reasonable explanation, she knew he would not assist her in
perpetuating this deception.
After all, they were sworn brothers, and their relationship was characterized by a deep bond with no
hidden secrets between them.
Bailey explained, “Because I believe Sylvester and Rainie would be even more hurt if we let them
continue like this. Justin, you've been Sylvester's brother for many years. Do you think Sylvester would
be interested in any woman other than Rainie? If you were in his shoes, would you engage with any
woman other than Veronique? If your answer is negative, then there's more to what happened a month
ago. We need to figure it out.”
Justin slightly narrowed his eyes. He had no idea what had happened over a month ago, but since
Bailey mentioned that there might be more to it than meets the eye, he believed she would not simply
fabricate things.
“Sylvester hit Rainie's stomach. If he were told that the child is gone, he might feel guilty and go mad,”
Justin said.
Bailey shrugged indifferently. “I've said all there is to say. It's up to you whether you want to tell him the
truth. But with this 'miscarriage,' I believe it'll be easier for me to investigate what happened over a
month ago. If you were to tell Sylvester that she still has the baby, it'll be difficult for me to investigate
many matters.”
As soon as her words fell, footsteps echoed from outside. A few seconds later, Sylvester walked in
from the entrance.
His gaze swept over Bailey's face, then shifted to Justin. He then asked in a serious tone, “How is she
doing?”
It appeared that Sylvester had just come from the restroom, his hands still damp with droplets of water.
His face was also speckled with moisture, and his eyes had a reddish tinge, but these were not
definitive indicators of whether he had been crying.
Justin lowered his head slightly, falling silent for a few seconds before speaking in a deep voice. “We
lost the baby, but she's all right. She'll feel better after a few days of rest.” Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Sylvester could not help but shudder, his body tensing up.
Justin said to Bailey, “Bailey, I think we should go.”
Bailey fixed an unfriendly gaze on Sylvester. “You'd better not hurt her anymore since she's already in
this condition. If you dare to hurt her, I'll make sure you pay the price.”
After making her point, she turned around and walked out of the ward.
Following closely behind, Justin passed by Sylvester and patted him on the shoulder. “Pull yourself
together. It was just an accident. Don't blame yourself too much.”
Sylvester ignored Justin and moved his heavy legs to the side of the bed.
A wave of intense pain surged in his heart when he saw Rainie's pale face.
That forceful smash had inevitably inflicted irreversible damage. She loves Mason with all her heart and
holds their child dear. Yet, it's because of me that she lost the baby. Will she ever find it in her heart to
forgive me?
He slowly reached out to caress her cheek, brushing his fingers gently against her skin.
Suddenly, Rainie woke up as his finger brushed against her lips.
As she gradually opened her eyes, their eyes met. It was as if they had not seen each other for an
extended period.
Sylvester withdrew his hand, asking with concern, “You're awake. How are you feeling? Do you feel
any discomfort?”
Rainie shifted her body, a wave of intense pain surged from her lower abdomen.
She looked up at Sylvester and asked, “Did I have a miscarriage?”
Sylvester's eyes avoided direct contact, and his voice quivered as he responded, “It's my fault. I don't
expect you to forgive me. But you're still young, and you can still have children in the future. Don't be
too heartbroken. Your health should be your top priority now.”
Rainie responded with a bitter smile. Does he think that I got involved with him because I like Mason?
It turned out that years of affection could not withstand even the slightest test. A minor hardship was all
it took for their relationship to crumble. Well, it's good that he thinks that way. Perhaps, it's time for me
to reclaim my freedom.
Rainie was tired and did not want to be involved with him anymore.
She never wanted this child in the first place. Now that the child was gone, she could finally cut ties
with the Hollett brothers. It's a blessing in disguise!
“I hope the miscarriage settles whatever old scores I have with you. Please, don't disturb me anymore,
and I don't want to see anyone from the Hollett family for the rest of my life. If you truly feel guilty, then
keep your promise and help Mason through this difficult time,” she said.
In the past, Sylvester would have become infuriated if he had heard her defending Mason, but now, he
did not dare to express his anger. “All right. I'll take good care of Mason and try to lessen his burden.
You take care of yourself. I'm going to go now.”
With that, he turned around and left.
Rainie observed his desolate figure from behind, her expression gloomy.
As he was about to leave the hospital room, she spoke in a light, airy voice. “Sylvester, from now on, it
would be best for both of us to stay out of each other's lives.”
Her remark rendered Sylvester speechless.
Once again, Bailey brought Rainie back to the Shurmer residence, and Mason did not dare to stop her.
When Rainie asked about her baby, Bailey chose to conceal the truth as planned, convincing her that
she had suffered a miscarriage.
Upon hearing this, Rainie, as if relieved of a heavy burden, fell ill immediately.
Fortunately, the Shurmer family's medical room was stocked with some of the most advanced
medicines in the world, so Rainie would be able to recover from any health implications.
Nonetheless, the medicine was still unable to cure her emotional pain.
Outside the ward, Zeke and Bailey stood shoulder to shoulder in front of the floor-to-ceiling window,
silently watching Rainie, who had already drifted into slumber.
Zeke asked, “Bailey, what you're doing might be a bit inappropriate. Things will be easier to handle if
the child is Sylvester's. If the child isn't his, what will you do then? Perform another abortion on her?”
Bailey clenched her fists tightly, her gaze unwavering. “No, I'm certain the child she's carrying is
Sylvester's. It was all orchestrated to lure her into this trap.”
She turned toward Zeke and continued, “Zeke, I had someone look into the incident at Lunar Bar last
night. Karina bribed a waiter to help her take down Sylvester, then spread rumors that she had an affair
with Sylvester. But by the time my man went to apprehend the waiter, she had already fled. I suspect
she knows something about the situation. Help me find her.”
“Alright, I'll look into this.” Zeke nodded. “By the way, Artemis said he'll video call you in half an hour.
You should hurry to the study and ask about his situation.”
Bailey's eyes lit up when he heard Artemis' name. “I'll leave the rest of the matter to you then.”
