Chapter 72 Friends Were the Most Important
“It’s already so late. Just stay with me. Why do you have to go back?”
At the entrance of the community, Amanda got out of Joleen’s car and said goodbye to her by the roadside.
Joleen replied, “I’m used to my own bed.”
“You are such fussy.”
“I just have the body of a princess but the life of a maid,” Joleen waved toward her. “I’m leaving.”
“Tell me when you get home. Drive slowly.”
“Got it.”
It was not until the taillights of the car disappeared at the intersection that Amanda turned around and walked into the community.
As soon as she got home, she saw several unread messages from Patrick.
“Amanda, what happened to the news? Are you with Iverson?”
“Is Halley harassing you?”
“Did Iverson force you to do anything?”
Amanda furrowed her brows. Just as she was wondering how to reply, Patrick’s call popped up on the screen.
“Hello, Patrick.”
“Amanda, how are you?”
“I’m fine.”
“I saw the news as soon as I finished my work. Is that you in the news? What’s going on?”
“It’s okay. Everything has been dealt with.”
“How could it be all right? Is Iverson going to throw his weight around you? What does he mean by that in front of so many people? Is he trying to force you to accept?”
Patrick’s tone was very fast. This was the first time Amanda had seen him like this, so she was taken aback.
“Patrick.”
After a pause, Patrick realized that he had lost his composure, so he softened his tone and said, “I’m worried about you. I’m sorry. Did I scare you?”
“No, Patrick. Thank you for your concern, but Iverson is not the kind of person you think he is. What happened today is not what you think it is.”
“You can’t judge a book by its cover. Wasn’t it the same for Halley back then? They, rich generations, are all the same.”
Amanda frowned slightly.
“Amanda, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Patrick, I think you may be a little prejudiced.”
“You’re not going to accept Iverson’s request, are you?”
Patrick’s impatient attitude made Amanda feel uneasy. Clenching her phone, she reminded him, “Patrick, this is my personal matter.”
The other end of the phone fell silent.
“It’s late now. Patrick, you’ve been busy all day. You should go to bed early.”
After that, Amanda hung up the phone.
After hanging up, she held her phone and sat on the sofa, feeling very uncomfortable.
Although she had been schoolmates with Patrick for so many years. In the past, she didn’t have much contact with him alone and almost Joleen or other classmates were together. After graduation, due to Halley’s residence, they only interacted with each other at work and rarely contacted privately. She had never thought too much about it.
More importantly, when she accidentally found out that Joleen was secretly in love with Patrick when they graduated, Amanda had been trying to matchmake them.
But now, she suddenly didn’t know what to do.
If she still couldn’t tell that Patrick liked her, she would be a fool.
Her phone vibrated. It was a message from Patrick.
“Amanda, I’m sorry. I was so anxious. Do you have time tomorrow? Shall we have dinner together?”
Amanda threw the phone directly on the coffee table as if her hand was burning, and closed her eyes to lie down after a long while,
What was going on?
Between Joleen and Patrick, of course, she would choose Joleen without the slightest hesitation.
It was late at night.
On the second-floor balcony of SW Law Office, Patrick was leaning against the railing and smoking.
“Mr. Dolley, are you still not off work?”
The voice of a colleague greeting after work came out.
Patrick smirked. “I’ll leave later.”
The surroundings quietened down.
He took out his mobile phone and looked at it. The chat history remained from half an hour ago.
“I have an appointment with Joleen tomorrow. How about I ask her if she has time to have dinner together?”
After finishing the last cigarette, Patrick threw the cigarette butt onto the ground, extinguished it with his sole, and then dialed a number.
“It’s me.”
The woman’s voice was a little startled, but she was very happy. “Why did you call me so late at night? Didn’t you tell me not to contact you privately?”
“Do you have time tomorrow?”
The person on the other end of the line was stunned and didn’t ask what it was. She immediately said, “Yes!”
“Let’s have dinner together.”
“Okay, where are we going?”
“It’s a private home cuisine on Sin Street. It’s about six or seven o’clock. You should arrive early.”
“Will we go that far? Actually, I know that there’s a pretty good private home cuisine near your office. It’s very secretive, and no one will see it, I…”
“Then forget it if you don’t want to come.”
“That’s not what I meant,” the person on the other end said carefully. “Then let’s head to Sin Street. I’ll wait for you.”
Erm, it’s getting late. Go to bed.
“You too.”
After hanging up the phone, Patrick’s eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. He then lit another cigarette.
The next day was the weekend.
The shopping mall was very lively.
Amanda was trying on clothes in a store with Joleen. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Joleen sighed, “It’s much easier than before after the divorce. You’ve never asked me out to shop since you got married these years.”
“Not mention me. You have been also very busy. It seems that divorcing is much similar to resigning.”
While they were talking, they suddenly put their hands on the same dress.
Amanda was surprised and raised her head to meet Joleen’s eyes.
Joleen smiled. “This one’s pretty good. Try it on. It suits your skin very well.”
“Don’t you like it?”
“I’ll give it up. I’m used to wearing dark clothes. This color is not suitable for me.”
“Why not? If you like it, then buy it. We can wear the same dress.”
“No need. You go try it out. I’ll see something else.”
After saying that, Joleen directly ordered the sales to fetch the size of Amanda and personally pushed her into the fitting room. She teased her through the door, “Refresh person, new dress, your new life is about to begin, aren’t you going to dress up for your date?”
“Joleen! Who said I’m going on a date?”
Joleen smiled without replying.
The salesperson at the side said, “Miss, we have other styles. Would you like to take a look?”
“Well, I’ll go and have a look.”
After shopping, they rested at the mall with bags in their hands.
“I can’t walk anymore.”
Amanda beat her calf and said, “Let’s just eat whatever here for dinner tonight.”
Speaking of this, Joleen said apologetically “I was just about to tell you that I had something to do tonight, the company asked me to go back for a handover.”
“Aha? So suddenly?”
“Yeah. After all, I’m going to resign. There’s still a lot of things to be dealt with.”
Amanda sighed helplessly. “All right, go ahead.”
“Then… I’ll go first.”
“Hey, wait a minute,” Amanda called out to Joleen and handed her the shopping bag. “This is for you.”
Joleen stared blankly. “Isn’t this…”
“You’re the same size as me. I know you like this dress, so I bought it for you.”
Amanda stuffed the bag into her hand and said earnestly, “Don’t give everything to others. Do your best to grab whatever you like.”
