Mayra wrote, “You really deserve to be alone!”
Just as she was about to continue messaging, a new notification appeared.
Gordon wrote, “I’m done with work. Are you free? I’ll come to you.”
Mayra replied, “No need. Let’s meet at the college town.”
Gordon wrote, “Okay.”
The physical education teacher, wary of Mayra skipping class, called her name first.
Skipping physical education classes was common at this school, and it was usually ignored if it was not excessive.
But Mayra had already skipped his class once, and he got reprimanded by the principal and received calls from higher–ups because of it. He didn’t dare slack off now.
With five minutes left in class, Mayra didn’t bother changing clothes and left school with her backpack.
She saw the familiar car at the school gate and got into the passenger seat. It was the personal driver arranged by Anderson.
Serena walked out with a group of people and called out to her, “Mayra!” Then, she waved at Mayra.
Mayra pretended not to see and rolled up the window.
Matias Biller said, “Ms. Sadler, your friend is calling you.”
Mayra replied, “Ignore her. Take me to the college town. I want to buy something to eat.”
Matias said, “I might need to report this to Mr. Anderson. He said I should inform him of your daily activities in defail.”
It turned out Anderson had someone monitoring her
“Okay. Call him, then.”
The call went through quickly.
After a few words with Anderson, Matias said, “Alright, I’ll have Ms. Sadler take the call.”
He handed the phone to Mayra, who put it to her ear. “Andy…”
Amid the background noise, someone on the other end said, “Mr. Barlow, here’s a document-”
Anderson raised his hand, signaling the person with the document to leave. The sound of footsteps gradually stopped.
“Why are you going to the college town?” His voice was low and pleasant.
Knowing Anderson’s suspicious nature, Mayra said, “The pastries were good last time, so I wanted to buy more.”
“Didn’t you say they were too sweet? Why the sudden craving? Mayra, are you hiding something from me?”
His questioning left her speechless.
Mayra felt a chill down her spine. She would be done for if he discovered she was in contact with Gordon.
She forced herself to say, “I’m not telling you what I’m doing! But you’ll know when you get back. Andy, will you come back early?”
Hearing some noise behind him, Anderson turned and saw Shane. He glanced at his watch and said to her, “Depends. You can go, but be back by 8:30 pm, okay?”
“Don’t worry, Andy. I’ll be back by 8:30 pm. Come back early. I miss you.”
She then hung up before he could respond.
Anderson’s deep eyes turned to Shane. “Gordon left Candor City?”
His expression was no longer gentle like when he was on the phone.
Shane was taken aback, unsure why Anderson suddenly asked this question. “Yes, he returned to Belchester some time ago.”
Anderson lowered his gaze as he fiddled with the silver ring on his finger.
His eyes flashed with cold intensity. “Mayra has grown up and has her own thoughts now…”
