Chapter 994
Chapter 994
Chapter 994 Better
Ouyang Li was not one to easily admit defeat, but the sleepiness was starting to creep into her bones.
It was freezing at the start, but over time, it did not seem like that anymore. All she knew was that she was starting to take a back seat in her own body.
Frankly, it was dangerous. If she fell asleep, she would probably not wake up ever again.
“Li, why would you want to do this to yourself? Kidnapping their kid with Rong Jilin to take down Nanshi Corporation is a foolish idea that would never work. You should know that Rong Jilin is not a good man. If you continue working with him, you'll be digging your own grave eventually. Hurry up and tell me where the kid is at. Then, I'll get someone to let us out, or else we'll both really meet Dad in the afterlife!”
Ouyang Qi was still trying to persuade Ouyang Li to tell him the location. He was a man, so he was in a better condition than his sister. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
“Ouyang Qi, are you insane? I can't believe you're trying to drag me to hell with you. Are you really my brother?”
Ouyang Li was already struggling to hold on. In fact, she was sure that the grim reaper was standing right beside her. It was even tiring for her to speak.
“Li, I'm your brother, and that's why I'm trying to get you to turn over a new leaf! If you refuse to do that, I'll really be meeting Dad with you in the afterlife to apologize to him in person,” Ouyang Qi said as he glanced at his watch.
He was the one who had instructed his men to lock the door from the outside. They had also agreed on a time for his men to open the door and send them to the hospital.
Without a doubt, he would not let himself die with his sister. It was not as if he had lost his mind.
Even if he actually wanted to die, he would never involve his sister in the matter. That was something he could not bring himself to do.
There were ten more minutes left before someone came to open the door.
If Ouyang Li still refused to reveal where the child was, then this plan would be a failure.
“Li, come on. Tell me where the kid is. If you don't, we're both going to die!”
By then, Ouyang Li was sure that she was about to die. “I don't know where the kid is. They handed the kid over to Rong Jilin's men after kidnapping him.”
Ouyang Qi pressed on. “So the kid is with Rong Jilin?”
“Yes... Yes, he hid the kid. I don't know where he hid him.”
After some time had passed since the siblings' discussion, Ning Ran received a call from Ouyang Qi, who asked to meet her, but she never thought it would be in a hospital.
He dramatically had two blankets around him, yet he was still shivering.
Ning Ran was baffled by the sight of him. “Did you catch the flu?”
“Something like that. I've asked you to come to tell you that the kid is with Rong Jilin. My sister told me this herself,” Ouyang Qi quickly informed.
“Ouyang Li said it herself?”
Ning Ran was not surprised to learn that the child was with Rong Jilin, but she was certainly shocked to hear that Ouyang Li was the one who revealed it.
She and Nan Chen had been thinking of all kinds of ways to make Ouyang Li talk, and yet, the latter refused to say anything.
Thus, Ning Ran could not help but wonder if the information was genuine.
“She really did say it,” Ouyang Qi repeated, guessing what was on Ning Ran's mind as he studied her dubious expression.
“I locked her in a cold store and forced her to spill the beans. There's no way this is fake. Go to Rong Jilin. If he won't say anything, then call the cops on him. They'll surely be able to get him to talk.”
Ning Ran inhaled sharply. “You locked up Ouyang Li?”
A bitter smile appeared on Ouyang Qi's face. “I had no other choice. Nothing gets to her, so I had no choice but to threaten her that I'll kill her with me. Thank god she believed it.”
Ning Ran was impressed by how ruthless Ouyang Qi could be. She never thought he would be able to do something like that.
“But the police can't arrest him based on a mere statement from Ouyang Li. We still don't have any evidence,” Ning Ran remarked with a shake of her head.
“We still need to give this a try, don't we? Ouyang Li said that the kid is with him, so it has to be true. We need to find the kid as quickly as we can.”
Ning Ran nodded. “Thank you. At least we now know that the child is with Rong Jilin. I'm going to talk to Nan Chen about this.”
Ouyang Qi waved his hand dismissively. “Go now then. I wanted to tell you about this over the phone, but I'm a little paranoid right now. I'm scared that someone might be listening to our calls, so I had to ask you to make a trip here. Your priority is to save the kid, so hurry along.”
Ning Ran was moved.
“All right, thank you.”
Nan Chen was not surprised to hear what Ouyang Qi said from Ning Ran.
After all, the first two suspects the couple thought of at the start were Ouyang Li and Rong Jilin.
However, they could not tell if it was only one of them or if the two were working together.
Furthermore, those two had powerful backing. They could not simply do anything to either of them without starting a war.
The police could only surveil them from the shadows without evidence too.
However, as they had found nothing amiss during their stakeouts, the police decided to withdraw from the case.
The Nan family did not own the police; the police needed to serve the rest of the public too.
Rong Jilin had only been working and indulging in entertainment the whole time, so it felt like nothing was odd about him.
But that was what was strangest about him.
After a moment of contemplation, Nan Chen turned to Ning Ran and said, “I'll leave this to you.”
Ning Ran understood what Nan Chen was trying to say to her. Rong Jilin was her brother, and she should be the one to handle the case.
Regardless of whether they were close or not, their relationship by blood was not something that could be dismissed.
If Nan Chen was the one to handle it and if a major conflict broke out, this would become a wall between them that they would never be rid of.
Perhaps Ning Ran would not mind it, but Nan Chen could not say the same for himself.
“No, I won't be able to deal with this well. You and Qiao Zhan should handle this. You don't need to have me in mind. Dabao is my child. He's my everything. No one in this world is more important than my child, including myself. So, I won't show those who hurt my child any mercy,” Ning Ran said to Nan Chen.
Making things clear was so that Nan Chen would not be hesitant because of her—because of her relationship with the Rong family.
But, honestly, it was pointless. If Nan Chen did not know about their relationship, then he could be merciless.
Having the knowledge made him unable to do so.
Rong Jilin was technically Dabao and Erbao's uncle. How could he show that man no mercy?
With that thought in mind, Nan Chen fell silent.
“If that's the case, maybe we should let the police deal with this instead,” Nan Chen suggested.
“But the cops already intervened. They can't get any evidence, so there isn't anything they can do about him,” Ning Ran said.
“Then there's only one person we can leave this to.”
Ning Ran nodded.
Although Nan Chen did not mention the name, Ning Ran knew who he was talking about.
The only person who was more familiar with Rong Jilin than them was Rong Yi.
Furthermore, Rong Yi could do anything to Rong Jilin without worrying about the consequences.
They were of the same family, after all. Like what Ouyang Qi had done to Ouyang Li, Rong Yi had more methods to choose from.
Ning Ran and Nan Chen knew that Rong Yi would help them out with this and that Rong Yi was capable of successfully saving the boy despite not knowing that Dabao was his nephew.
“Are you going to talk to him about this or do you want me to do it instead?” Nan Chen asked.
Ning Ran gave it some thought. “I'll do it. It's better if I'm the one who owes him the favor.”
Although Nan Chen had a good relationship with Rong Yi, the Rong family was, at the end of the day, rivals with the Nan family. No one could tell if Rong Yi and Nan Chen would end up as enemies one day.
If that day really came, Ning Ran did not wish for Nan Chen to hold back because of a debt unpaid to Rong Yi.
