Chapter 724: Grandpa White Poisoned
The couple exchanged a glance, each reading a questioning of life itself in the other's eyes.
Really...
Could it be said that these two were strangely well-matched?
Grandpa White had fallen ill, and their first reaction was to shoot videos and take photos?!
How did the White family not beat you two to death?
However, Tina didn't end up watching the video.
Before she could click on it, her phone, charging from a power bank in Hayden's car, began to vibrate.
Wraith, with a tone of utter despair, roared on the phone, "Spectre! Where did you get those drugs? That woman has been jumping around the room for half an hour now! I barely managed to knock her out with a strong sedative, and she's still jumping in her sleep! She's kicked my lab into a mess!"
Peter Crispin laughed maniacally, "Hahaha, Serena, where did you find this new prank drug? That woman, she's like a marionette from the movies, so hilarious!"
White Manor.
Paula's parents, Sean and Diana, stood guard at the doorway to the old man's room.
To better observe Grandpa White, a hole had been brutally carved into the solid wood door. Led by Paula's parents, a crowd from the White family encircled it, layer upon layer.
They watched Grandpa White inside like a rare animal, each with a different expression.
"When will Yi Yi come back? If the old man keeps jumping, he's going to bleed dry."
Sean was almost pressing his face into the hole in the door.
His wife Diana stood shoulder to shoulder with him, in a unified posture, looking at the old man inside with a face full of worry, "Who could it be, sneaking into the White family unnoticed in the middle of the night?"
Behind them, Grandpa White's only daughter, Caroline, huffed, "Not only that, Dad was once a renowned master among the great families in his youth, and now to be so easily subdued, it's laughable."Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
"Caroline!"
Her brother Henry scolded, "He's our father, after all. How can you speak like that?! Do you not feel any pity seeing him like this?"
Caroline scoffed, "Pity him? Who's going to pity me? If it weren't for him forcing me to marry into the Langdon family, would I have ended up like this?"
Pointing at the scars on her face, Caroline's eyes filled with resentment as she looked towards the room.
She wasn't here today out of concern for Grandpa White.
She was worried that if he died, her brothers wouldn't even inform her, dividing up her share of the inheritance without a word.
Henry glared, "You're being unreasonable!"
"Enough!"
The eldest brother, Sean, couldn't stand the siblings' quarreling any longer, shouting, "What time is it, and you're still arguing. Henry, go call Yi Yi and see where they are, it might be too late soon, we might have to collect the old man's body!" Through the hole in the door, they could see Grandpa White, just as Paula had described to Tina, using his hands and feet to jump around on the floor.
Even for someone trained in martial arts with flexible ligaments, these complex movements made Sean cluck his tongue in amazement!
His face was as pale as paper, and the dark circles under his eyes made him look particularly ghastly!
On closer inspection, one could see fresh red blood slowly seeping from Grandpa White's mouth, nose, and even his ears!
Sean was frantic!
He had always been in charge of the White family's bio-weapon project and considered himself well-versed in various viruses.
But he had never seen a virus like this one, one that could literally make a person jump to death!
Who exactly is it?!
Who could be so cruel to the White family?!
Just as she was pondering, Paula's agitated and anxious voice could be heard from outside, "Serena is here."
"At last, you're back! Where is she?!"
Upon hearing the call, Sean rushed out immediately, his eyes bloodshot as he scanned the surroundings, "Where is the doctor you mentioned?!"
Paula, clutching Tina's wrist, exclaimed, "Dad, it's her, Hayden's Serena, the one known as Spectre."
"And him, he's Serena's husband. Jared, you should know him."
Pointing directly at Jared beside her, she said, "Dad, please step aside. If you have any questions, you can ask your husband; I'll let Serena go in to treat Grandpa first."
Jared followed, a twitch at the corner of his mouth, "Mr. White."
Sean, unable to restrain his impetuous daughter, watched their retreating figures filled with questions, "Mr. Farrell, your wife is really Spectre?"
The fact that Tina was Spectre was known only to those close to her, with very few outside that circle aware.
This was largely due to Tina's deliberate concealment of her identity, fearing that if it became widely known, she would be overwhelmed daily by those seeking her medical expertise. Hence, not many knew of this identity.
She looked too young for it.
Nothing like the legend described.
"Indeed,"
Jared nodded, his tone carrying a hint of pride.
Hayden chimed in from behind, "Mr. White, rest assured. Serena is formidable; there is no ailment in this world that can baffle her!"
"That sounds nice!"
Caroline, standing to the side, blocked the door, "A mere girl barely grown, what can she possibly know? Big brother, don't be deceived by them."
Tina, dragged all the way by Paula, hadn't even had a chance to speak.
Hearing this, her attractive eyebrows lifted, her gaze lightly sweeping over Caroline blocking the doorway.
This woman.
She seemed not too concerned about Grandpa White.
Henry frowned, displeased with his sister's manner of speaking.
After all, Tina was to be the future matriarch of the Farrell family, and lately, Caroline had been increasingly out of line.
"Caroline, show some respect!"
He looked at Tina, "Miss Reed, my sister is just like this; don't take it to heart. Honestly, it's hard to believe at your age that you are a doctor."
Tina tilted her head, "The White family has its share of young prodigies, too. Is it so hard to understand?"
"The White family is the White family; what right do you have to compare yourself with the White family?"
Caroline scoffed coldly, her chin lifted arrogantly.
Paula exploded then, "Don't you even trust me?! Serena is someone I brought here with difficulty; how could I not know her capabilities? Or do you think I would harm Grandpa?!" "You little brat, how dare you speak to your elders like that!"
Caroline's gaze shifted to Sean, "Big brother, is this how you teach your daughter?! No respect, no manners, I really don't see why she should be the heir to the White family's secrets!"
Hayden couldn't stand to see Paula spoken to like this and pushed Caroline aside, "Enough with you! Always running your mouth, aren't you?! With no skills of your own, you even block others from helping Grandpa White here. People might think you hate Grandpa White so much you wish your own father dead!"
"You! You little rascal, what nonsense are you spouting?!"
A flicker of guilt flashed through Caroline's eyes.
Just then, Tina and Jared, who had approached, caught it in their gaze.
