Noah’s POV
All I think of as I sit through the meeting with the board members is Rachael. Her EDD seems very near and although Pat and Liliana have been instructed to be at her beck and call all day. I don’t seem quite comfortable sitting about ten streets away from her. All morning she pushed me from the house telling me not to bother about her as I made my way to work but just to have fun.
“We will pick up the meeting from here next week,” Mr. Monero says quietly and I nod in appreciation and acknowledgment but mostly appreciation that I can easily escape this torture of sitting here while I’m fully at home playing with my daughter and constantly nagging Rachael to actually stay indoors.
“Jack bring the car around” I nod to the giant guy standing by the conference door. Slowly everyone dispatches talking in groups. Maybe about my absent presence today.
I can’t sit through the long journey home. When I get home. My little girl Lisa runs to me. She hugs my legs and stretches her hand expectantly for me to pick her up. I pick her up and tickle her and she turns giggling in my hands.
“Angel, where is mummy?” I ask her as she smiles brightly.
“In the woom(room)” she says pointing in the direction of our room. I take her in my hands and nod when Pat greets me as I make my way upstairs. I see Rachael on the bed sitting. She smiles when she sees me but then a frown overtakes her face.
“You are back early,” she said when I got close to giving her a kiss. The one I had been yearning for.
“Yes, the board meeting ended really fast and I wrapped up earlier and left,” I said lying about the last part. I didn’t even have time to wrap up. I just told Sharon, my new assistant, to take care of things and only call me in case of any emergency.
“Angel,” I say referring to Lisa who was ready to go out and play obviously with Jack. She had grown fond of the big guy and although he behaves like a robot I have seen him show some emotions around her.
“Yes Daddy,” she said, stopping by the door.
“Did mommy go out today?” I ask her. She looks at my face and then at her mom and then looks down. That is all I need to know. She definitely went out.
“Mommy said I should not tell you,” she said and I laughed.
“Daddy will tell Jack to get you some ice cream now if you tell the truth,” I say and she smiles widely.
“Mommy went out with Aunty Leah” Lisa finally confessed. I smiled at her innocence and easily persuaded myself. I call Jack on my phone and instruct him to get Lisa her favorite ice cream triple chocolate chip ice cream.
“I want ice cream too” Rachael groaned and I gave her a look.
“I told you to stay at home today,” I tell her and her eyes widen as if she wasn’t just caught.
“Leah needed help with her boyfriend,” she said and I shook my head. “We didn’t go far,” she added and I sighed. It was impossible for her to listen to me. She just has this determined personality.
“Just glad you are okay,” I say when she stands up.
“My help is needed at the office,” she said, pretending to rearrange her already arranged desk. She was a very organized person. She could arrange and rearrange twenty times a day and no that was no exaggeration
“What for” I say slowly as I wait for her to make her case.
“There is a delivery error,” she explains.
“Tell Melissa to bring home the necessary files and schedule a meeting with the client. I follow you to go meet them” I say knowing I have to agree with her on the matter of work.
“Thank you, you are the best,” she said, quickly dialing Melissa’s number.
The meeting with the client went as good as possible. I was driving her home when Rachael suddenly had this look on her face.Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“Noah,” she said my name slowly letting her voice pronounce each letter as easy as possible.
“Yeah?” I question trying to listen to her and keep my eyes on the road.
“We need to go to the hospital,” she said like something was wrong.
“What is wrong? Are you okay? Do you feel pain anywhere?” I asked fear overtaking me.
“My water broke,” she said and my eyes widened. The hospital was a twenty-minute drive from where we were currently if there was no traffic.
I pulled up Pat’s number on the speakerphone in my car. I told her to have Jack bring her to the hospital with Hayley and the bag for the baby. I was driving like crazy just trying as much as possible to beat traffic and get her there on time.
“Noah be fast” she screamed. I looked at her and fear hot the better of me. Beating the record I was at the hospital in no time.
She was rushed to the room. The doctor told us that the contractions just started and that was not enough to bring the baby out.
After a lot of screaming and cursing at me. She promised a thousand times that she was not ever going to allow me touch her. She finally delivered the baby.
The final scream and a cry of a baby was the end of the torture she had been inflicting on me with her hands and teeth. I could endure anything I thought when the baby’s face came to us.
“It’s a boy” the doctor announced with a smile. The baby boy was dropped in my hands. I smiled at his little features. “What do you want to name him?” the doctor asked preparing to write his name so he can prepare a certificate.
“Edward Lynch Lorraine-Mirchoff” we both chorused our eyes locking with each other. It was the best moment of my life.
I never regret the day I approached her at that bar to ask her to follow me to take my mind off Nichole. It was there I found the meaning of true love.
We had our little family and we planned on stopping there, although I told her we could have some more and she threatened playfully to cut off my organs because she could not bear the pain of childbirth anymore.
She gave me a family and I gave her one too. I was so happy when she told me she made up with my mom. She was a very special person who I didn’t deserve but I know I wanted. She was the love of my life. She was my everything. She was my wife. I’m glad for that one night that led to eternity
