House Of Legions (The Angel Descendants book 1)

Chapter 44 (Clare)

Chapter 44 (Clare)

She didn’t need her brother’s knowledge, to know that this man was incredible, there was a deep yearning when she touched him, “You think I’m incredible.”

She could hear the amusement in his voice, he sounded English, but it wasn’t distinctive, his voice was soothing, a fluent tone, something deep and masculine, deeper than Kalbreal’s. Confidence poured through his words, her mind whirled with the realization, had he just read her thoughts, she should have been nervous, or scared, but instead, she was aroused.

Her mind had come to its senses moments later when he removed his hand. She was levitated in the air. Just as the thought registered, the gravity pulled her down to the ground. She braced for the impact of the fall. The awaited pain never came, because her mysterious stranger, who enchanted her with his touch, had caught her in his arms.

He held her like she was a weightless bride, hand brushing her nape, sending chills down her spine, she lost herself by the intensity of his actions.

His other arm gripped under her knees. This man-made her nervous, and highly aware of all his caresses and touches. She tried to see his face, now that she was cradled against his firm, hard chest, but the hood was pulled down and it was so dark she couldn’t make out anything besides his eyes. Its colour was not shadowed by the darkness of the hood, it was illuminating, the colour of the night sky with the billions of stars lighting its hue, mesmerizing.

“You can read my mind?”

Putting her down, he brushed his fingers on her lips, she closed her eyes, waiting, expecting him to kiss her, the neck slanted, her invitation obvious, lost to his touch, slave to his want. When his hand dropped, instead, she opened her eyes. A stab of disappointment assailed her, was it something she said. Before she could speak and ask, she saw the descendants as they stood in utter shock. Reality clicked, where they were. The others must’ve seen everything, she held back her groan, at what an

awful daughter she was, allowing herself to be consumed by this man, who just saw it quite okay to hide his face from her, and manipulate her body to bend to his will. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.

He walked a few steps away from her, and she noticed the guider, sitting in a predatory position. The same one she had seen earlier upon entering Khiron.

She walked closer to the strange man, as he jumped on the guider’s back. His robe opened at the bottom, noticing his jeans underneath the robe, didn’t give her much besides show her that he had a well-defined muscle tone on his thighs, he yelled, “See you soon princess.”

The bird carried him in the air, higher into the dark sky. She watched with amazement as the bird's wings stretched out in lengths as a dragon, gliding through the midnight air with the mysterious stranger riding freely on its back.

She wished he would’ve offered to take her with him, whisk her away like a fairy tale, ‘a true Angelic warrior’ she thought, how enticing. She watched him until she could no longer see the man who enticed her body with just a brush of his fingers as it danced on her lips.

Turning, around her the descendants stood stunned but no one walked up to her or spoke to her at first. They just stood like obedient soldiers, she found it strange but remembered that guiders are feared, they had a connection to Angels, so how was a Caster riding one, she’d decided to ask Kalbreal when she saw him.

The small fires that were made around the bayou had been replaced by dust and smoke. She heard people around her, whispers and laughs, but it was like her world had slowed down, making seconds minutes, because it had never crossed her mind that she lusted for a man who was bred from the very own breed that descended from the same beasts she had pledged to kill.

It was much later that Nathan stood a few feet away from her, she broke from his glaring eyes when somebody shook her from the back. She spun around, about to put a fake smile on her face, when she

saw the perpetrator,

Alexa.

She didn’t seem impressed, or amused as the others were but rather impatient, “Your body rejected Franchesca’s gift, luckily it didn’t kill you.”

Clare forced a sarcastic smile, “I kinda figured, who's that..”

She was caught off guard when Nathan pulled her to one side, away from Alexa, before she could finish her sentence. When he was sure they were away from the others he whispered, “Something wasn’t right, I felt it, it’s the first time I’ve seen that, I don’t want you talking to anybody about this just yet, not even our father, nobody saw much, they were put in a trance, Kalbreal no doubt.”

She moved a step back keeping her voice low, “Wait, just a minute dude, firstly why didn’t you help me, and secondly that guy that just saved me, he just flew on a freaking bird, I mean who the hell is he.”

“I’m your older brother, and right now, I’m ALL you got.” He paused, “I couldn’t save you because I couldn’t move, something, blocked me.”

His eyes grew wider, anger-filled them, tinting the green darker, “And that guy is a Caster, the same monster’s you dislike so much, except I dislike him too, so stay away from him, he’s way too old for you, and that goes for Kalbreal as well, you wanna date, find a nice Lightwatcher you own age, or younger.”

Clare pushed her lips together, Nathan had a point, and he was older, and her brother, and when it came to dating, she never considered getting sloshed by a brother, but the look Nathan gave her, told her, he wasn't going to hear about it, so she shut her mouth because what she had to say wouldn’t make a difference.

She dropped her head angry and pissed off that she had to listen, but Nathan looked like he was not going to hear any of it, he was so much like Franchesca. He ordered, “Stand still, I’m going to calm your nerves, I think you might go into shock.”

He didn’t wait for her to respond, just touched her wrist before she could say anything else. A warm sensation passed through her body, quickly like a dose of valium passing through her veins except this method did not sting. Her body relaxed as the warmth spread, her mind felt feathery, the world around her seemed to move, or her feet did, she felt like she was drunk, in a way, but sane.

“What did you do to me.” Her words came out soft and dead like she made no effort to speak when she actually had to try pretty darn hard.

“I weakened your emotions and heightened your senses.” His smile was wicked, “You lucky I’m not Calub, he would’ve given a mean shot, with catastrophic side effects, it lasts for days sometimes.”

The green in his eyes protruded, his jaw tightened, it was more prominent when he smiled so gleefully. His hair was not gelled, so the middle hair which was far longer fell flat to the side of his right cheekbone, and the front swept to the right eye. He was a beautiful site and looked just like her mother except for the eyes, the resemblance was astounding.
