Chapter 287
Chapter 287
“Got it.” Sylas then hesitated for a bit before continuing. “Mr. Golding, are you worried about Ms. Sorelle's safety? Is that why you're having me investigate Joel?”
Evander simply pursed liis lips without saying a word. However, the icy-cold look in liis eyes eased up a little as he tapped his slender fingers rhythmically on the desk. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Joel definitely has ulterior motives for getting close to Angeline. I mean, he agreed to come all the way to Hallsbay on such short notice just to work as a designer. I know that it must have something to do with me. but Angeline has worked really hard to hire him. so I don't want to disappoint her. Angeline gave Forrester Group all she had. so I have to keep a close eye on Joel to ensure her safety!
Sylas nervously took a deep breath as he observed Evander's expression from the side.
He then retrieved a planner from his folder and said, “Mr. Golding, here's a wedding planner that Ms. Sherrock told me to hand you. She wants you to pick out a venue...”
Those words had barely left liis mouth when Evander's face clouded over with displeasure.
“Just pick the one on the beach. There's no need to ask me about such minor things in the future,” he said casually as though it didn't mean a tiling to him.
“Understood,” Sylas replied cautiously while wiping the sweat off liis forehead.
He didn't want to bother Evander with such questions either, but Olivine had been abusing their engagement to have her way in the company.
Naturally, Sylas was caught between a rock and a hard place. He had no choice but to put up with her because of Valerie.
Fortunately for him, however, that was no longer the case as he found Evander to be the most terrifying of them all.
Evander waited until Sylas had left his office before retrieving a design draft from liis drawer.
It was a draft of a wedding gown, which was something almost all women dreamed of wearing. Although he had only sketched the outlines, it already looked beautiful and unique.
The faint, yellowish lighting from the desk lamp added a hint of warmth to Evander's face.
He grabbed a pencil from liis desk and spent the rest of the night outlining the sketch. It wasn't until the sun started rising on the horizon that he switched off the lights in liis office.
As Roger kept getting Joel to drink that night, he ended up needing the help of several bodyguards to get Joel back to the hotel.
After getting herself and Sebastian dressed. Angeline personally drove to the hotel to pick Joel up the next morning.
Joel soon came out of the hotel wearing a white casual shirt and a pair of slim-fit pants. He had liis hands in liis pockets as he made liis way toward them.
He frowned slightly when he opened the car door and saw Sebastian, who was dressed in a black tuxedo with a red bow tie, sitting in the back seat.
“I forgot to ask you yesterday. Is this your son?”
Angeline flashed him a smile as she replied, “Yeah. Judging by how much you drank last night, I bet you haven't eaten anything, hull?”
Those words had barely left her mouth when Sebastian retrieved a box of buns from the side and stared nervously at Joel.
As though he wasn't used to people being so nice to him, Joel fi’oze for a few seconds when he saw that.
“Thanks,” he said awkwardly while taking the box of buns from Sebastian.
Angeline rested her hands casually on the steering wheel and flashed Joel a friendly smile. “Hallsbay is famous for its cinnamon buns. A lot of tourists come here just to tiy them out. Sebastian and I spent the entire morning queuing up just to buy these. Go ahead and tiy some.”
“All right.”
Joel then took one from the box and stuffed it into his mouth. “Not bad,” he mumbled while munching on it.
The tense look on his face eased up a little as he glanced at Sebastian in the back seat.
“Are you planning on bringing him to the office? I don't think it's very appropriate.”
“I don't have a choice. Sebastian is a special child, so I can't just leave him at a kindergarten. I need to keep him with me at all times. I'm just dropping you off at the office, though. Sebastian and I have other stuff planned for the afternoon, so we'll leave right after that,” Angeline replied while starting the car and turning the steering wheel around.
“Okay,” Joel replied nonchalantly as he leaned back against liis seat.
As Angeline maneuvered the car toward the center of the road, she glanced at Joel and noticed the exhausted look on liis face.
She then retrieved a bottle of water from the glove box and handed it to him. “Here, this should help a little. I know that Roger is a very friendly guy, but you didn't have to drink as much as he did.”
“I was surprised to find out that he's Nancy's type. Almost everyone in school knew her for being a cold and stoic type,” Joel replied with a sneer.
Angeline simply let out a chuckle without commenting on the matter.
Nancy's taste in men was a personal tiling, so she felt it wasn't her place to say anything about it.
It wasn't long before they arrived outside the office building. Angeline then earned Sebastian out of the car and led Joel into the office.
Naturally, the three of them gained a lot of attention from the other employees along the way.
Instead of explaining herself to them, Angeline simply gave Joel a quick tour around the office to familiarize him with the place.
“And that pretty much sums up our office tour. If you have any further questions, I'll have my secretary take you on another tour,” she said with a smile.
There was a hint of disdain in Joel's eyes as he glanced at the cubicles from the second floor. “That won't be necessary. It's really small, so I already have everything memorized.”
Angeline felt herself burning bright red with embarrassment after hearing liis reply.
Joel gently tapped on the handrail as he said calmly, “All right, you can go ahead and show me my office.”
“Sure tiling.”
Angeline then led him over to the design department.
Sebastian had been really obedient and quiet as he walked hand-in-hand alongside her.
Angeline had just opened the door to the design department when she noticed the strong smell of instant noodles.
Her face clouded over when she looked up and saw the messy environment around her.
There were pieces of paper scattered all over the floor, and the wall was covered in drawings.
The employees were all busy working at their desks.
Steven Jenkins, the director of the design department, however, was casually smoking a cigarette while reading the entertainment news on his phone.
Despite being the core of the company, the design department looked more like a joke than anything else.
