Chapter 284
Chapter 284
Luckily. Angeline only got a cut by accidentally touching the broken pieces of the well. She did not suffer any internal injuries.
However, Evander was in a panic. He ordered the doctor to use the best medications on her and wrap a few layers of gauze around her forehead.
After putting the medication on her, he went through the process to admit her to the hospital so she could rest peacefully.
Angeline felt helpless as she looked at Evander, who sat beside her. She said in a low voice, “I'm all right. You don't have to be in such a panic...”
“Sit properly.” Evander reached out to hold her shoulder. He left no room for negotiation as he said, “The doctor said you need to stay in the hospital for observation.”
Angeline was speechless. Why didn't I hear the doctor say that?
However, her head hurt, and she did not want to argue with Evander. She held a hand to her forehead and leaned against the wall to rest.
I'm so unlucky. I went on a business trip but ended up hurting myself. I must be extremely clumsy. I keep getting hurt wherever I go!
Knock! Knock!
Just then, someone knocked on the door of the ward.
Joel stood at the entrance with a fruit basket in his hand and looked uncomfortable.
“I'm here to visit you.”
“There's no need.” Evander rejected coldly.
However, at that moment. Angeline reached out to smack liis arm. A smile appealed as she hurriedly greeted, “Mr. Quinn, you didn't have to bother bringing a fruit basket along with you. Come and take a seat.”
Joel paused as he stared at Evander before walking into the room.
He placed the fruit basket on the table. He sounded apologetic as he said, “I didn't mean to push you. I'm sorry for hurting you. I'll take responsibility for all your medical fees.”
His apology was sincere, which made Angeline feel a little embarrassed. She quickly replied, “Mr. Quinn, you don't need to be so polite. However, there's one tiling I still don't understand. Why did you suddenly attack Evander?”
She asked her question in a soft tone and could finally heave a sigh of relief when she noticed no sign of rejection on Evander's face.
Joel's expression darkened, and liis tone turned cold. “It's none of your business, Ms. Sorelle. There are some tilings that you are better off not knowing.”
Angeline frowned as her suspicions grew.
Seeing how unwilling he was, she did not question further.
“I've done what I was supposed to. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving first.”
Joel was cold as usual. After he placed the fruit basket on the table, he left the room.
Angeline knew it was useless to stop him and she was too lazy to waste any more energy on him.
Not long after Joel left, Evander got up from his seat and bent down to rearrange Angeline's blanket. In a deep voice, he said, “I'm heading out to buy some oatmeal. You shouldn't rest on an empty stomach.”
Angeline knew7, he was leaving to talk to Joel alone, so she nodded.
She reached out to grab liis arm, looking worried.
“Be careful.”
Two simple words were enough to sum up everything she wanted to say.
Evander's expression softened, and he nodded before leaving the room.
With a bang, the door shut behind Evander.
Angeline leaned against the pillow' as tiredness consumed her.
She believed that Evander would not take action against others before the truth was revealed.
Evander had only taken a few steps outside the room w'hen he saw Joel smoking at the stairwell. Smoke surrounded the latter, making him look older than he was.
Evander made his w7ay tow'ard Joel and stood in front of him. His height made it easy to assert dominance as he looked down at Joel.
“Are you not going to tell me the truth? Who the heck is your sister?”
Joel looked angry as he coldly reminded Evander, “Wow, do you have amnesia because you have too many benefactors? My sister did many things for you, yet you've forgotten all about her? I won't throw' her under the bus.”
Evander was expressionless as he replied, “There are a lot of people wrho hate me. Do you wrant me to count them one by one?”
Joel looked at Evander with disdain. “You must be so proud of yourself.”
“Just get straight to the point.” Evander's gaze turned cold. “If there's anything, come after me. Don't you dare hint Angeline.”
“You care about her that much?” Joel suddenly chuckled.
Evander frowned and tucked his hands inside liis pockets as he stared at Joel coldly without replying.
An amused smile appeared on Joel's lips as he purposely lowered liis voice and reminded him, “The more you wrant to know; the more I won't tell you. My sister's life is on the line, so wrhy should I let you atone for your sins so easily?”
Evander's expression darkened.
However, Joel wras not afraid of Evander. He even raised his eyebrow7 to try to provoke the latter.
In the next second, he threw' the cigarette butt in liis hand onto the ground and stepped on it to crush it. He left after that.
Evander watched him leave. His hands at the sides of liis legs were clenched into fists. He finally understood something.
Angeline rested at the hospital for a night. She was allowed to leave when the doctors cleared her of any side effects.
However, she underestimated Joel's cold attitude. The fruit basket he sent seemed to be an apology to her.
Yet, he would not meet up with her when she was discharged no matter what.
Angeline was exhausted from dealing with him. Although I will have to wait for some time, he'll eventually come around. Now7 that I think of it, he's such a bore.
However, Forrester Group could not be left alone without anyone managing it, so she had to pack up and get ready to settle tilings back home.
Just as she arrived at the boarding hall at the airport, a male voice urgently called out to her, “Ms. Sorelle. please wrait a moment.”
Joel was holding onto a suitcase as he walked tow7ard her.
However, the most surprising tiling was not liis sudden appearance at the airport. It was because he looked like a whole different person.
He had changed into a sleek suit and cut liis hair short. The buzz cut made his facial features more exquisite. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
“Mr. Quinn, w'hat are you...”
Angeline was confused.
Joel walked up to her. and liis eyes were filled with determination as he said, “I've thought about it. Your company may be more suitable for me, and I shouldn't stay on Linlow Island. I agree to sign a contract with you.”
“Really?” Angeline did not know' how7 to react for a moment as surprise flashed through her face.
“Ms. Sorelle, you could be a trustworthy collaborator. If you can promise me one tiling, I'll make sure to produce designs that are to your satisfaction.”
Angeline did not feel repulsed as she looked at how7 confident he was.
She let out a small smile and. wdth the same confidence, said, “Name it.”
