Drawn to You: The Billionaire’s Second Wife

Chapter 37

Immediately Xavier left to his room with Chloe, Lilian dashed out of the house. She was damn frightened.

All this while she has been dating Xavier, she hasn’t seen him in such mood. He had never for once raised his hand on her.

And that’s why she was shocked when he hit her cheek and yanked her hair so hard. The pains were much on her, and she knew Xavier might take the worst action if Vanessa isn’t back before evening as he ordered.

She left to her own residence in order to take a rest and stay away from the angry man.

When Xavier noticed she isn’t within the environment again, she began dialing her contact.

But because she was so scared of hearing her voice again, she didn’t think I’d picking up the call despite several times he called.

She has been thinking of how to reach the hoodlum so Vanessa would be released, but then… she’s so ashamed of going to Xavier as it stands.

It’s time she stays away from him, even if Vanessa is back or she might regret it due to his annoying mood. She had convinced herself that Xavier would miss her if she stays for some days out of his sight.

After so many hours had elapsed, she decided to redial the hoodlums contact and that of her friend. Luckily for her this time, he picked up the receive on the first ring.

“Hi dear… how is Vanessa doing?” She referred to the thug through the phone.

He glanced at the phone screen and placed it back in his ear again. “Sorry, but I don’t know who I’m speaking with.”

“It’s Lilian…”

He nodded. “Oh! I remember… so your captive is feeling okay over here. You want to speak with her?”

“Not at all, just that the police is out in search of her, and my fiance had promised to go all extent just to make sure she’s back. I don’t want to risk your life please, he isn’t an easy going type… just release Vanessa to go.” She narrated.

He shook his head. “Just like that? Without any torture or threat?”

“Uhmmm! You can torture her, but please don’t hurt her the bad way or my Xavier won’t take it easy with anyone.” She remarked.

“But isn’t he your fiance? Why are you scared of him… and who’s this lady to him?” The young man questioned.

She swallowed deeply. “It’s a question you don’t need to bother asking, just do what I said please… for the benefit of everyone.”

He acceded to her order and hung up the call.

After some minutes of ending the call, he moved to Vanessa and untied the scarf used in enclosing her face.

“Take a good look at me, woman.” He ordered her.

Vanessa shook her head slightly while wiping her face in order to see clearly. She lifted her face to get in sight with the young man who had visited her bakery.

“It’s you… why did you bring me here? You drugged me right?” She uttered about to weep.

He stretched his lips into an annoying smile. “Of course I told you not to misbehave when referring to a stranger, maybe you thought I was joking right?”

“I never used abusive words on you, rather you did. Please, just let me go… my bakery must be open.” She pleaded amidst tears.

“Who cares? That isn’t my business.” He squatted. “Now tell me, what’s between you and your boss?”

She shivered on hearing that question. “What sort of question is that? Do I have a boss? I’m self employed.”

“Of course you are, and then you’re babysitting Mr Xavier’s little child. Isn’t it?” He questioned.

She heaved a big sigh. “That’s why you abducted me huh? To know what’s between me and Xavier? Well, there’s nothing binding the both of us, but if you still don’t believe, then it’s left to you.”

He slapped her cheek so hard making her groan in deep pain.

“What have I done again this time.” She referred enclosing her face with her two palms.

He pulled out her palms off her face. “Xavier is Lilian’s fiance and you know that, what then are you up to towards Xavier that he loves you damn much than his fiancee?”

She shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m just a mere babysitter for goodness sake. Why wont Lilian let me be…

“And she’s always unlucky, all the thugs she hires always expose her. What have I done to deserve all this mess? I’m i the only babysitter in New York?”

She wiped her face and rested her head on the wall. “I just wish Xavier would come to my rescue…” she hissed inwaey.

“Why would I seek for his help when he’s the reason for me locked up here?” She rolled her eyes. “But then it’s not her fault, he has been good to me all this while… just that Lilian won’t let me be because of unreasonable jealousy.”

He waved his palm on her face. “Hey! Are you okay?”

She nodded coming back to reality. “Yes I am…”

He left to get with a knife, she watched him cut the rope tied in her leg and she hot on her feet straightening her body.

“What do you think is the reason behind your liberty?” He referred to her.

She stretched her skirt and top. “My freedom is because I’m innocent, I know nothing about what Lilian has been saying. Maybe she expects Xavier to be so rude to me because I’m his worker, but she can’t care for the children under her control…”

Her face lifted up staring at him. “That’s why he hired me to babysit his little daughter who is missing the love of a mother.”

He gasped. “You mean, Lilian can’t take care of the children?”

“I never said so, but I guess it’s because they aren’t her biological children. That’s what I think.” She replied.

He stepped backwards staring at her completely. He began regretting on raising his hand on her. But he couldn’t apologize.

“Then you have to be extremely careful with her and take good care of the kids.” He stated.

Vanessa was so shocked to see him saying such thing to her, she wondered the sort of spirit that occupied a space in him.

“Are you for real? I mean, you are the one advising me huh?” She referred to him.

He smiled and leaned in the wall. “I’ve examined you and noticed that you have a good heart, and Lilian is kind of inhuman. If she isn’t, she wouldn’t want her fellow woman to pass through hell.”

“Don’t ever hate that family because if Lilian, do your job in a way that your boss would love. And please, don’t tell anyone that I’m the one who abducted you.” He stated.

Vanessa shuddered, she wondered the hell that would cage her up to expose a thug, she will die in a moment.

“It’s okay… so what are you up to now.” She asked.

“Nothing, just go. I have nothing to do with you.” He declared.

Vanessa felt glad and appreciated him before leaving the house. She boarded a cab that dropped her at the street near her bakery.

While she was taking short bit steady steps back to her bakery, she wished nothing would be lost there and then Xavier and his daughter are okay.

She walked pass a car that parked along the road, after which the car engine ignited and moved towards her.

She stopped to see who is that obstructing her view.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

“Hello beautiful, can I drop you off.” The young man seating in the car called out.

She hissed, if only this man knows that she’s in a haste and doesn’t have time for jabbering… he won’t bother disturbing her.

“Please dear, can I have a talk with you?” He referred to her again causing her to stop moving.

She turned her grimaced face to the man. “What do you want from me young man? As you can see I’m in a haste.”

He nodded. “I’m so sorry for distracting you, but please I’ll like to be a friend to a pretty lady like you.”

She glanced at her and looked off feeling irritated.

“I’m Jasper Turner… and you?” He asked.

Vanessa shook her head showing disagreement. “You can keep that question for some other day, I’m not in the mood of introducing myself.”

She moved ahead very fast this time without taking a glance backwards. All her mind was affixed to getting to her bakery.

He followed her instantly but was so slow in driving. His mind was made up to know where Vanessa was heading to.

Vanessa took long steps to her bakery to get it locked, her heart beat increased. It began sinking into her stomach.

She glanced at every corner, and then the tears rolled down.

“Who locked up my bakery? I just hope nothing is missing here… will I have to lose this place that I fought to get with my last sweat?” She shook her head out of curiosity. “No! Never! That can’t happen.”

She turned back instantly and began heading home.

Jasper kept watching her until she vanished from his sight, and then he revised and went back.
