Chapter 142 An Unexpected Guest
Chapter 142 An Unexpected Guest
Lorenzo just finished the international video conference and was about to head to his aunt’s banquet
when he got the message.
But the banquet was an assignment for him from his grandpa, for which his grandma required some
pictures or a video clip to prove his attendance.
Lorenzo had never thought about attending together with Jessica. After all, the rest of his family was
too tough to get along with. Besides, his story in the past seemed too evil to be known to Jessica. So
it’d better if she could stay away from them.
Lorenzo then texted back, “Okay, just go if you want. But remember, you should be wearing a dress
long enough to cover your leg completely. And keep a safe distance from all guys. Don’t drink during
dinner! Call me after you finish. I will come to pick you up.”
“Yes, sir!” replied Jessica through her message. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
…
Leila finally reached the venue inside the Claus Hotel as she wished. But most of the guests hadn’t
arrived yet at this moment.
In order to make herself impressive, she hired a professional team to dress up herself.
Tonight, she was wearing a Chanel dress to reveal an energetic and brilliant look.
All the guests inside the venue were well-known among the medical industry. Commonly speaking,
Leila should have been too humble to attend such a banquet. So she couldn’t help getting thrilled at
this moment.
“Oh, Leila! Your arrival seems much earlier than I expected.” Professor Hawkins walked over to her as
soon as he noticed her.
“Good evening, Professor Hawkins. It’s been a great honor for me to meet so many medical experts
here. So I can’t wait to attend as soon as possible.” Leila smiled to reply in sweet voice.
“Leila, I know you have been sophisticated among artists but I am sure you may have little knowledge
about the medical world. Come on, let’s me do you a favor to help you build a better network with those
medical elites. I can tell it’s gonna be much helpful to your career.”
Obviously, Professor Hawkins thought highly of Leila.
Hearing that, Leila was a bit nervous. It had been an essential part to have a strong backup if Leila
wanted to stand out in a new field, while Professor Hawkins could be the one who led her in. With his
help, she could be free to get to know more about the medical industry.
“Oh, where’s Ben, the president of Capttar Medical School?” asked Professor Hawkins as he noticed
that most guests had arrived.
“Well, I heard that it might take some time before Mr. Harris arrives. But I have no idea about his ETA.”
Answered Leila.
“Among all those elites in the medical world, Ben has been one of the top. Besides, he has some
connection with the Training Institute in Fretston. If you could manage to impress him and make
yourself one of his students, the future is gonna be promising.” Said Professor Hawkins.
“But professor, you have been the one I respect the most! I know Mr. Harris is influential, but I have just
been admitted to the Capttar Medical School. I don’t think I should change who I study from before I
achieve something in this aspect. Besides, Mr. Harris has never proposed an admission to enroll any
students during all these years. I am afraid I am not qualified enough.” Though she was bearing strong
expectation, she knew it sounded too impossible as Ben had been more superior than Professor
Hawkins.
“Don’t worry about that. We have been friends for years. I am sure he will agree as long as I propose
so.” Professor Hawkins responded easily to ease her nervousness.
“Really? Professor Hawkins, thank you so much! I…I have no idea what to do to return…” Leila was
getting so excited.
As soon as the portal was opened, Valentina, in black evening dress with diamond tassels hanging
around her waist loosely, strolled inside in elegant manner. She looked like a queen with her hair
perfectly coiled. Undoubtedly, her arrival caught everyone’s eyes.
Leila noticed her as soon as she showed up. She felt like dreaming to see the lady she had been
admiring in person at this moment.
“Professor, here comes Ms. Fletcher.”
“Come on, follow me.”
“Ms. Fletcher, glad to meet you here. This is Leila Armstrong, a student of mine whom I have always
mentioned about. I invited her to the banquet tonight. Oh, by the way, she seems to be one of those
being exclusively admitted to the Capttar Medical School as authorized by you.” Professor Hawkins
smiled at Valentina.
She raised up her head to look at Leila, somehow feeling familiar with her name. After a short silence,
she finally recalled that it was Lorenzo who came to her to recommend this girl.
The relationship between her and her nephew, Lorenzo, had been plain. So she was quite surprised
when Lorenzo turned to her for the sake of another girl. But still, she agreed to do this favor.
Such an experience was strong enough to grow her curiosity to dig out the reason. But the answer from
Lorenzo remained mysterious—he only claimed that he did so as a return for what she had done.
However, Leila had been average ever since she was admitted to the school. Besides, Lorenzo had
never mentioned about her after that. So she almost forgot about this girl.
“Ms. Fletcher, it’s been a great honor to meet you. My name is Leila. I have been paying you my
greatest respect. I am so honored to talk to you in person.” Leila was trying to ingratiate herself with
her.
However, as a lady raised in the most privileged family, Valentina had been used to flattery.
Her elder brother had been a legend in the business world while her two nephews had been known as
the most excellent elite among the young generation. Even Erica and Amiyah, whom she favored the
least, had both been outstanding.
Besides all those mentioned above, Jessica had also impressed her a lot, whom she would like to favor
as well.
“Professor Hawkins has been highly prestigious. As long as you can settle down to study, I am sure
you will be progressing under the coaching of Hawkins.” Valentina simply replied with a cold glance.
She could tell that Leila had been a scheming girl, for which she grew greater disgust against her.
Leila had been struggling to fawn on Valentina. However, she was rendered quite awkward when
noticing that Valentina appeared quite indifferent while talking to her.
“Ms. Fletcher.” Someone else greeted.
Hearing that, Valentina took the chance to walk away.
“Professor, Ms. Fletcher seems to have bias against me.”
As Valentina faded away from her sight, Leila turned to look at Professor Hawkins, with her face
covered with upset.
“Don’t worry. She has been aloof when facing strangers. It wasn’t out of bias.” Professor Hawkins
explained to solace her.
Though hearing so, Leila still felt like being heavily impacted by upset. Ever since she was born, she
had been the focus of all. It was her first time ever to face such a heavy blow in her life.
She couldn’t help sighing.
However, the next second, she saw a slim and eye-catching lady walking in.
It was Jessica!
How could it be?
How came she was able to attend such a superior banquet?
She got invited as well?
“Oh, Jessica, I am so surprised to see you here.” Leila walked over to her front.
“Hey, Leila, what are you surprised at? You seem to be scared of my arrival, huh?”
Jessica was wearing the evening dress offered by Valentina, which perfectly highlighted her nice figure.
She appeared extraordinarily pure with a decent expression. Her eyes were glowing with charm while
an alluring smile lingered on her face.
“Jessica, do you know where you are at? This is the banquet organized by Ms. Fletcher, the
chairwoman of the Capttar Medical School where I study. All guests have been well-known and
glorious in the medical industry. You didn’t even finish your study in junior middle school. How dare you
show up here?” Leila sneered at Jessica with a proud look.
“Listen, I am invited.” Jessica smiled to reply.
“Oh, you are so shameless! Who the hell do you think you are? Are you gonna say that you were
invited by one of those honorable guests?” Leila uttered to mock.
“Lady, excuse me, could you please show me your invitation card?” a security scurried over when
hearing their conversation going loud. He had to perform his duty to keep every uninvited guest out of
the venue.
“Sorry, I have no invitation card.” Jessica shook her head.
“Sorry, miss, you gotta leave. Those without invitation shall not enter.” Said the security.
“Jessica, you’d better run away before everyone else find out unless you wanna get humiliated.” Leila
laughed out loud.
“Sorry, Leila, you can’t decide if I should leave. I got no invitation card. That’s true. But…it was Ms.
Fletcher who invited me here.”
Leila was totally stunned when hearing that.
Impossible!
She could tell from the talk a minute ago that Valentina had been aloof and proud. How could it be
possible that she actually took the initiative to invite Jessica?
“Are you kidding me? Jessica, your shamelessness really disgusts me! Security! Please get her out!”
while speaking, she beckoned the security over.
“Hey, come over here! We got an uninvited guest here!”
