Branch Fifty Three
Xavier lifted his eyes to see Jessica staring hard at him. He felt his face flush with embarrassment. How could she be openly staring at him like that?
“Can I give you a call after dinner?” Xavier said his voice firm and enticing.
Jessica could not make out the words he said but she knew they drew her in. She looked at his well-chiseled body while hearing that voice did something funny to her tummy. Something she could not explain well.
“You give quite a stare,” Xavier said walking towards her.
Jessica only snapped out of the trance when she noticed his body was moving and it was moving towards her. She uncomfortably shifted her gaze and her eyes wandered the room.
“Errm, I came to call you for dinner,” she said in a loud tone which made him stop in his tracks.
He looked at her long as she gulped hardly and used her hands as a fan to fight back the beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
“Be down soon” she said and turned back to go to Dawson’s room without giving him a chance to respond.
She walked a few steps always from their door and screamed internally. How could she? Wasn’t she just swearing a few hours ago that she would go back to Burke if he asked? Has she become so shallow that she likes two guys at the same time?
Worse of all it was two guys she could not have. One ex was a crazy narcissistic douche bag and the other was a crazy jerk who cared for only himself.
She steadied her breathing before walking over to Dawson’s room. She knocked before pushing the door open.
“I thought wasn’t going to see you today,” Dawson said as he saw her step into the room.
“I am so so so sorry about lunch. I never knew it would take so much time and effort to get clothes” Jessica said with an uncomfortable laugh at the end of her statement.
“It’s alright I already knew you wouldn’t make it,” Dawson said truthfully.
He had once accompanied Leslie on one of her shopping spree when she was still latched on to Xavier and she spent the whole picking out outfits and trying them on.
“That’s why I made you a very special meal,” Jessica said smiling and walking slowly toward him.
“Is the meal for me or your husband?” Dawson teased.
Jessica felt uncomfortable. She was just openly staring at him some minutes ago.
“No, this meal is for you. It’s like a welcome home meal” Jessica said.
She had made the meal because she wanted to thank both men. Even though Xavier rarely did well he was still considerate of her sometimes and she was grateful for that.
“Ohh I can’t wait,” Dawson said rolling his chair to meet her halfway.
“Why are you sweating so much?” Dawson asked when he saw her her face was flushed like she had seen a ghost and her forehead glistened with sweat.
“Just coming from the kitchen,” she said.
Dawson knew the kitchen well. There was an air-conditioner in there and there was no way one would be so hot to that extent.
What did she encounter or see that made her sweaty and flushed?
Xavier went down for dinner. He met Genevieve setting the table. To his surprise, she was still around.
“Hello, Xavier,” she said happily.
She was happy to see him. Why? She did not know but she was happy.
“Are you still lurking around?” Xavier said rudely.
“Ohhh sugar plum, I already told you I am here for a job. It doesn’t matter what job, just get me something to do” she said sweetly.
Xavier did not enjoy the way she spoke but there was nothing much he could do about it.NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
Jessica wheeled Dawson down the ramp to the ground floor. Xavier and Genevieve were already seated and waiting for them.
“Genevieve you are still here. I thought you left since I did not see you all day” Dawson said as he set his eyes on her.
“Xavier is the exact replication of you” Genevieve answered in a high-pitched voice.
Xavier had asked her the same question but in a much rude way. She had constantly been amused when she would come for money. Both men usually gave her what she needed but both acted rudely in the same manner.
Why did the bit resemble his grandfather so much? Was it because he grew up with him? Was it because he took all his genes from this Father’s side?
“He is my grandson after all. The one and only” Dawson said.
They sat down to the table and began to dig into the delicious macaroni and cheese with chicken prepared by Jessica.
“Your meals are really good. Fantastic” Genevieve said with a full mouth. For some reason Jessica reminded her of her late sister who was an excellent sister, a perfect mother and a wonderful cook.
“Manners” Xavier said quietly but audible enough for everyone on the table to hear.
Jessica cleared her throat as she shifted in her chair. “Thank you for the long words” she said.
“When do you plan to have a baby?” Genevieve asked out of the blue.
Jessica who had food in her mouth chocked which made her quickly reach for the glass of water in her front.
“Oh my, I am sorry did I say something wrong?” She asked.
“Yes you did,” Xavier said.
“What’s wrong did I say? It is normal for a married couple to talk about having kids” Genevieve continued. “Or are you guys not planning on having any kids?” She added.
“We are not having any children,” Xavier said like it was the final judgment.
“What do you mean by that?” Dawson said dropping the cutlery that was in his hand. “You are supposed to give me an heir before I die” Dawson added. What was Xavier trying to pull on Dawson.
“An heir? That was not in the agreement” Xavier said cool and collected.
Everyone could see that Dawson was losing his cool and was not okay with what Xavier was saying.
“The agreement was a wife and I provided that for you,” Xavier said pointing to Jessica. “Now you expect me to father a child?”
“What did you think I asked you to marry for?
