Branch Eighty Three
Jessica freed herself from Xavier’s grip and moved to the kitchenette she opened up the refrigerator to meet it filled with everything and anything one could think about.
“We are to make our meals ourselves?” Xavier asked out loud.
“You do not like it? I think it’s a very good idea” Jessica said closing the refrigerator and then opening the cabinets one by one. Cereals that she had never seen before, instant noodles and other types of instant packet foods and spices lined the shelves.
“I love the view,” she said when she looked out the window that was over the sink. There was a nice beach with a speed boat on the deck.
“Glad to see you love it here,” Xavier said sitting on the couch made available in the room.
“I did not….” she started but got cut off by him.
“Plan it? I know you’ve said it more than enough times now and I believe you so don’t say it again” Xavier said.
“I guess it is good to see you happy after being down for so many days. It’s like you never recovered from the incident at the police station” he added.
‘Why would he think the reason she was down was because of the police station incident?’ she thought to herself.
“You think I’m down because of Emma and Burke?” she asked as she left the barricade demarcating the kitchen and room.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“What else can it be?” Xavier asked.
“It was you,” she said. If he was asking she should tell him. He deserved to know what wrong he had done.
“Me?” he asked like her words were a grave sin that was impossible for him to commit.
“Yes you” she answered coming to sit beside him.
“I offended you? Me?” he asked again.
She shook her head with a laugh leaving her lips. “Yes you,” she said.
“What did I do?” he asked. Now that he knew she was probably angry about something he did he wanted to know and maybe he could take a step further and apologize.
“I am not saying this to get an apology from you” she started and watched his curiosity grow.
“What is it?” he asked when she grew silent fit a few minutes.
“First of all, you reacted strangely when Dawson said we should come together. It made me feel very bad because it felt like I was unwanted by you” she said.
She saw he wanted to speak so she raised a finger to silence him. “Wait please,” she said stopping him from taking.
He gulped hard and took a deep breath. It was obvious to him that he was misunderstood by her. The way he reacted would make anyone think that way too.
“Also you avoided me the whole dinner night. I saw you glance our way a few times that night but you never came back” she said. “Not until I got drunk” she added.
“And then you did not compliment my dress or makeup too. I felt bad about it” she added.
Xavier stared at her and drew closer to her. She shifted in her chair as he came closer.
“Whhhh… aa.. ttt?” she asked her back hitting the armrest of the chair
“What are you doing?” Jessica managed to find her voice with him leaning in so close.
Her nose caught a whiff of his cologne and it was as if she should bury herself in the nook of his neck and get intoxicated with the scent.
“I did not know you felt that way” he murmured slowly his eyes falling to her lips.
She cleared her throat as his eyes darted everywhere in the room except at him. She wanted to lab in and place a kiss on his lips. How would he react if she did that?
“Men kept complimenting all evening but you…” she trailed off when her eyes caught his intense gaze.
“I did not think I needed to assure you of your beauty,” he said his voice very low. She darted her eyes everywhere his eyes on her were making her uncomfortable. “At least I thought you knew that” he added in a lower voice
“Can you stop staring at me like that” she muttered clearing her throat.
“Why?” he asked his lips going up in a smirk.
“You may argue that you’ve never dated before but you know how to do things like this too?” she asked him.
It was obvious that he was a born player. How could a man who claimed to have not had a relationship all his life know how to look at a woman in such a manner and also say things that made her hot?
“And about coming here” he started ignoring her comment. “I was just worried about making you travel when it was not a part of our contract. I do admit that at first, I did not like the idea but when I thought about it it was not bad at all” he added.
“Okay, but I was no longer down. I just thought to let you know” she told him.
“Oh,” he said like a child who was deprived of his juice box.
“Can you get off me now?” she asked.
He wasn’t on her but the position was too close and she was not sure of what she could do. His perfectly sculptured face was right in front of him and she wanted to travel her hand all over it.
“Is my weight too much on you?” he asked.
Jessica felt her hand go up to his head and she pressed the back of her palm against his head. She felt his temperature comparing it against hers.
“You seem normal and you look exactly the same too” she murmured slowly taking her hand off his head.
“What are you murmuring about?” he said grabbing her hand before she could drop it. She felt her stomach drop to the floor and multiple knots tied in her stomach.
“You are acting very strange Is it the new environment? I’m guessing it’s the new environment. We have been away from home twice now and you’ve acted strange both times. I guess the new environment has an effect on you” she rambled on. He gave a hearty laugh and slowly lifted himself from her.
“Should we go see the beach?”
