Rayner, I Want Your Daughter
Alexander Arlan Ainsley POV
"Mr. McDowell. Regarding your loan, I will reconsider, as the amount proposed is very large. I hope you can understand."
I deliberately did not want to agree to Rayner's request right away. After studying the proposal and discussing with him, including his company's profits over the past five years, the loan amount Rayner wanted was not worth the profit my company would make.
What if Rayner's company has trouble paying the installments? A million dollars, as he requested, was not a small amount, and I am not the type of business owner who likes to gamble on things that are not certain. I could see Rayner's face was a little disappointed, but he tried to remain calm.
"No problem, Mr. Ainsely. May I know when our company gets an answer from you?"
I fell silent after hearing his question. Suddenly, I thought of Arletta. Where was that beautiful girl? Did she meet someone? Who was that person? I became very curious.
I wanted Arletta to be mine forever, but for business matters with Rayner, it would be necessary to remain a business alias, separate from special feelings with my girl. I did not want those two things to become one because it could be fatal. "For an answer, probably two weeks to two months. I see you will need these funds in four months. If I need additional documents later, then Thomas, my assistant will inform you."
I had to investigate the McDowell family, especially Rayner. I must have done it because he requested a large amount of loans. If they could not be trusted, especially with money, then it was best for me to stay away from them.
Rayner's face turned into a bit of relief again. I did not want to say yes right away, so I could judge from all sides. Money was not a problem, but I did not want to kill people for the shake of money.
"Yes, Mr. Ainsley. I will wait to hear from Mr. Thomas for any necessary documents and endeavor to provide them."
I saw Rayner's smile. How would my future father-in-law react if he found out that I liked his daughter? Hopefully, he would not mind. Has Arletta left the building yet? Argh! I did not want to lose track of that girl! "Of course, Mr. McDowell. Thomas will get back to you."
I wanted to have lunch and contact my right hand, so he could find out about Rayner and his family, especially Arletta. I did not want to let another man propose to her! I saw Rayner stand up, so I did the same. Rayner smiled, then extended his right palm to me. "Thank you, Mr. Ainsley. I look forward to hearing from you."
I shook Rayner's palm. "You are welcome, Mr. McDowell. May I ask you something? But this has nothing to do with business."
I let go of the handshake, and so did Rayner. I saw him frown, not knowing why I had said that. Well, there was nothing wrong with being honest with your future father-in-law, right? Who knows, he might be able to help me get closer to Arletta.
"What do you want, Mr. Ainsley?"
Great. Now is a golden opportunity. I must not waste the opportunity! "Before I came in here, I saw a young girl coming out of your room. Is she your daughter?"
Rayner looked surprised, but it was only for a moment. He was probably wondering; how did I find out about Arletta? There was no way I could have told him about the incident in the elevator, right? Rayner would have cursed, and even worse, the chance to get close to my beloved girl would have been completely wiped out.
"Yes. She is my daughter. What's wrong with her, Mr. Ainsley?"
"Who is your daughter's name, Mr. McDowell? Is she married or still single? I am interested in getting to know her better." It was better to be honest on the safe side, so Rayner would still see me as a gentleman and responsible, despite the fact that I already knew Arletta's full name.
Rayner's face was dumbfounded again. If I had to guess, it was because he did not expect to hear a confession about his daughter, let alone that it was me. "Her name is Arletta. She is not married and already has a boyfriend."
"I am looking for a wife and am interested in your daughter. If Arletta does not have a serious relationship with her boyfriend yet, I want to be her official partner."
Hopefully Rayner would not have a heart attack or at least stay alive as long as we were in this room. He looked at me with a puzzled yet interested look. I should be prepared to get a lot of questions from Rayner. "Are you seriously want to make Arletta your wife even though you just met her a few hours ago?"
"I am absolutely serious about my last sentence, Mr. McDowell. I am already mature enough and it is time for me to find a suitable woman as my official partner. May you help to introduce me to Arletta so we have a chance to be together?" If I did not do something reckless, then Arletta could be taken by her boyfriend, and I could not let that happen! I have just found a suitable girl who should be fought for immediately. To be honest, a woman like her was very hard to find. "I can introduce you to Letta, but before that may I know why you are interested in my daughter when you do not know each other?"
Such a question did not surprise me, but if I was not careful in my answer, the chance to unite with Arletta could be lost instantly!
"I fell in love from the first time I saw Arletta. Even when she left the room, she walked without turning around and that was what impressed me."
Hopefully, the reasoning I just explained would not sound too strange to Rayner. I could only wait for Arletta's biological father's reaction, hoping that he would accept my strange answer as reasonable. Yeah, I hoped so.
"Are you sure you like Arletta? She is not a sociable or glamorous girl. My daughter, perhaps, is not suitable for you."Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
I looked at Rayner seriously, then shook my head. "I do not like a glamorous woman, Mr. McDowell. I know which girl I want and I only want her daughter. Give me a chance with Arletta."
I had to get a definite answer from Rayner because my confidant had to start looking for news about my dream girl after this. Arletta, wait for me, darling.
"If you are serious about Aletta, then I will allow it. If you just want to play around, I will never bring you two together."
Great! I smiled spontaneously, because that was exactly what I had been waiting for. This time, I extended my palm to Rayner, while he frowned, as if he found my actions strange. "Do not be surprised, Mr. McDowell. This is just a sign that you approve of my introduction to Arletta."
Rayner seemed hesitant when he heard my last sentence and gesture, but I had yet to withdraw my hand, so he shook it.
"So, we have a deal about your daughter?"
"Deal!"
