Chapter Ninety-Six
Chapter Ninety-Six
The moment the sunlight hit his face, Rome's hand searched his bed for his phone as he slowly raised
his eyelids, and then blinked his eyelashes to adjust his vision to the bright light glowing in their room.
Once he got a hold of his phone, he sat up in bed and unlocked it, then a frown settled on his lip as he
stared at the fifteen missed calls notifications on his screen.
"Why is this Mathew guy calling back to back so early!" Rome mumbled.
Sighing heavily, he called back, patiently waited, and after a few seconds, he said, “Good Morning,
Mathew."
“Good morning, Mr. Ford. I'm calling to find out if you are ready to cooperate with us today, or should
we do this with force?"
Feeling frustrated, Rome slightly rubbed his temper to relieve the stress building up in him.
Then he sighed and said, “There is no need for force? I will tell you guys all you need to know this
afternoon. Meet me at my office at two."
"I am glad to hear that. I will be looking forward to a worthwhile conversation today. Yesterday wasn't
the best."
As Rome's index finger gently rubbed against his eyelid, he frowned and mumbled, “I'm certain it will be
worth your while.”
After ending the call, he tossed the phone on the comforter and got out of bed. Then he wore
something comfy before leaving his room and heading downstairs.
When Rome arrived at the entrance of the living room, he saw Edward and his wife seated on the
couch.
Locking eyes with her husband, Catherine smiled and said, "You are awake."
With a look of excitement in his eyes, Edward jumped to his feet, rushed over to Rome, and gave him a
manly hug before getting a grip on his emotions.
Then he immediately took two steps back and mumbled, "Thank you for saving my daughter!"
"When Catherine texted us the good news last night that she was home and pregnant, we couldn't help
rushing here to see her and you." Catherine's mother calmly uttered with a graceful smile.
A calm look settled in Rome's eyes and he gave a half-smile before mumbling, "That's nice of you
guys."
In that instant, Mr. Miller walked into the living room, grinned at Catherine, and then asked, "Okay.
What are you craving this morning? Waffles, pancakes, toasts… Name it?"
In shock, Edward looked at Rome and subconsciously uttered, "I see, our daughter is well-taken care
of here."
"Of course, Catherine is the pride and joy of this household." Mr. Ford coldly said as he stepped into
the living room.
A sense of guilt swept through Edward, and he slowly lowered his head in shame, unable to raise his
gaze and stare at Rome.
When Mr. Miller saw how puffy his eyes were, he frowned and asked, "Did a bee sting your eyes or
something."
Feeling embarrassed to say that he had been crying for most of the night, Mr. Ford cleared his throat
and looked the other way.
"Dad, can you meet me in the hallway?" Rome calmly uttered before walking out of the living room.
For a moment, Catherine watched Mr. Ford follow him out. Then she turned to her father and sadly
mumbled, "How's grandfather's condition?"
"He will be fine. The doctor said that he needs to rest at the hospital for a few days. Afterward, he will
get discharged and can finally come home to stay with your mother, grandmother, and me at our
place."
Focusing on Rome's eyes, Mr. Ford hesitated for a moment and then asked, "What is it?"
"I need the video of the night mom...m-om… mother got murdered," Rome mumbled, battling against
the rage and hurt he felt.
"Are you sure?"
"It's not for me to watch. It is for Amara and her brother to know that they have been misguided for all
these years about what truly happened between you and their father."
"Okay. I will give you the drive."
At eleven o'clock, Rome walked into the Louis Cardinals hospital, and Brook with Blaze was already in
the lobby to meet him.
"Where is Amara?" Rome asked, staring at Brook.
"She's in the private ward with Axel. He finally woke up." Brook calmly uttered. "Our men have the
entire floor cover, keeping watch on them."
The hospital room was absolutely quiet as Axel frowned at the IV in his vein and the drip of blood,
hanging on the rack.
"You should have let me die!" Axel mumbled, scowling at his sister.
"Stop talking nonsense and be happy that Rome's blood matched yours!" Amara said in annoyance
with a frown.
"Don't you get it! I'd rather die than have the blood of the son of the man that killed our father, running
through my veins!"
"His father murdered ours, so the least he can do is to save your life and redeem himself!"
It suddenly fell silent as the room door opened, and then Rome walked in with a laptop in his hand and
coldness in his eyes.
"What the hell are you doing here! Don't you have any shame after learning the truth! Instead, you have
the guts to still show your face in front of us!" Axel lashed out, ignoring the pain that tore through his
chest.
Silently, Rome walked over to the bed, sat his computer down on it, and plugged in the drive. Then he
paused when he got to the video and sniffed back the tears that settled in his eyes.
Annoyed that Rome was ignoring him, Axel folded his finger into a fist and shouted, "Get out, yo…"
"Shut up and watch the damn video!" Rome coldly uttered, glaring at him. "You too, Amara. I think it's
time you guys learn the truth." Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
When Rome pressed play, the video started with a scene of his mother, Mr. Ford, and David, seated at
the table, having a feast and laughing.
"That's father," Amara mumbled while tears settled in her eyes.
"Tha surely is him," Axel whispered, pulling his brows into a frown as he continued watching.
A few minutes into the video, an intense argument broke out between Mr. Ford and his brother. Then
Rome could hear his mother, striving to get both men to calm down.
Suddenly, David pulled out a gun and fired her in the chest before turning the gun on Mr. Ford, who
was timely enough to dodge the bullet and escaped out of the dining room.
"The person your so-called father shot just now!" Rome harshly said, his eyes red and teary. "She is my
mother, you bunch of assholes!"
The room grew quiet instantly, and Axel stared wide-eyed at his father and his men in the video,
running out of the dining room to chase after Mr. Ford, and he could clearly hear his father say, "Don't
let that bastard run away! Kill him!"
Only the sound of the video echoed in the room as all three of them watched the intense fight between
Mr. Ford's bodyguards and David and his men.
"But father's right-hand man said that… he said that… Oh my God!" Amara whispered as tears trail
down her face.
"He fabricated the truth. He filled our seven and six years old brains with lies." Axel mumbled. "Amara,
it was all a lie. Our father is the monster, and Uncle Tom tried to make him seem like a hero by telling
us that bullcrap so we wouldn't remember him as the devil that he is."
"I was eight when your father walked into our house, had a feast at our table, and turned a gun on my
mother, ending her life all in the name of claiming what wasn't his from the very start!" Rome said, his
voice filled with hurt and anger.
Drawing a breath, Rome squeezed his eyelids shut, trying not to give in to hate. Then he met Axel's
eyes and coldly uttered, "Now tell me! Who needs to pay here and redeem themselves!"
Without hesitating, Axel swallowed hard and mumbled, "I do."
"I'm glad you know! Now, you are going to confess to all your shit and serve your time in prison as it
should have been from the start!"
"I will."
"Good! I'm meeting Mathew this afternoon, and once you are in a healthy condition, you will get turned
over to authorities."
A few hours after his meet-up with Amara and Axel, Rome drove back to his company.
The moment he entered the building and walked further into the lobby, every employee kept gazing at
him and staring away when he looked their way.
But that didn't bother him because he knew that rumors had spread about him, and he also realized
that everything was about to change for the better and go back to normal.
Without uttering a word, he headed for the elevator and got on.
The ride up was filled with nothing but silence, and when the elevator door finally opened and Rome
stepped into the corridor, it got awfully quiet and only the sound of his footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Employees kept glaring, but none of them had the guts to speak.
“Welcome, gentlemen.” Rome coldly said when he reached his office and saw Mathew and four officers
in the room.
"So, are you ready to talk now, Mr. Ford?" Mathew asked with a hostile expression.
Shutting the door closed behind him, Rome gave a slight smirk and said, "Of course."
The investigation lasted for an hour. Then the office door finally opened again, and Mathew walked out
with the four officers behind him.
Stopping at the doorway, Rome leaned his shoulder against the frame and said, "I'm glad we settled
this peacefully."
"I knew all along that you were innocent," Mathew said with a nervous smile.
Chuckling softly, Rome slightly shook his head and mumbled, "Ri-ght…"
"Well, we will be on our way then. Once Axel is in good shape, we will make an arrest." Mathew hastily
said with a stiff smile.
Silently, Rome watched them walk off, and then he headed back into his office, slamming the door shut
behind him.
