Chapter 75 The Lost Royal Family’s Background
In the bedroom, Amanda felt Joleen’s forehead.
“So hot?”
She frowned with heartache, then took an ice bag and put it on Joleen’s forehead.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Perhaps because the ice bag was too cold, Joleen felt uncomfortable and moved a bit.
“Don’t move. Do you know that you have a fever?” Amanda pressed down on her shoulder and said, “This is the anti-inflammatory medicine. You’ll be fine after taking it.”
She helped Joleen stand up. Her lips were dry and cracked, and her voice was very soft, “The water is too hot.”
“Is it hot? Wait a minute, I’ll get a bottle of mineral water.”
After Amanda left, Joleen struggled to find the medicine at the head of the bed, wrapped the pills in tissue paper, and threw them into the trash can.
When Amanda came back, she saw that the medicine was gone and Joleen was lying back on the bed.
“Joleen, did you take the medicine?”
“Yeah.”
Amanda put down the mineral water in her hand and said, “You’ll be fine after taking the medicine. If your fever doesn’t subside tomorrow, you have to come to the hospital with me.”
“Look at you. You scared me tonight.”
…
Amanda talked for a long time, but there was no response. She found that Lin Jia seemed to have fallen asleep.
She lowered her voice. “Joleen?”
The other party was sleeping soundly and muttering something.
Amanda leaned over and furrowed her brows when she heard the name “Patrick”
Sure enough, Joleen still had Patrick in her heart.
Sigh.
That night, Amanda took care of Joleen and didn’t fall asleep until early in the morning. So, she woke up late.
By the time she woke up, Joleen had already left.
On the dining table in the living room, there was a bought breakfast and a note.
Amanda dialed Joleen’s number as she opened the breakfast.
“When did you leave?”
“I left early in the morning. I saw that you were sleeping soundly, so I didn’t wake you up.”
“Has the fever subsided? Are you feeling unwell now?”
“It’s okay. Remember to eat the breakfast I bought for you on the table.”
“I’m eating.” Amanda took a bite of the dumpling. “Ah? By the way, what happened to you last night? Why did you come to me looking so depressed? Are you crossed in love?”
“No, it’s work-related.”
“Is it because of Patrick?”
“No, it has nothing to do with him. Amanda, what are you thinking about?”
Amanda curled her lips. “I hope I’m thinking too much. There are millions of men in the world. Don’t stick to one person”
“I have something else to do, so I’ll hang up”
After hanging up, Amanda pressed the phone down on the table.
When she recalled Joleen’s abnormal behavior last night, she felt somewhat worried.
Though Amanda worried about Joleen, she had always been very measured and bonded as a friend. She rarely asked about her friend’s emotional affairs. After all, only when someone had experienced this kind of thing herself would she know the joys and sorrows.
A message popped up on her phone. It was from Iverson.
“Don’t forget tonight.”
Amanda paused slightly as she ate the dumpling and subconsciously looked at herself.
It was her first time visiting the elder of her boyfriend’s family. She should dress up.
In the old house of the Byran Family.
Mrs. Old Byran was watering flowers in the greenhouse.
“Mom, Iverson is bringing that woman home tonight. Should we ask her about her preferences in advance so that the chef can prepare them?”
“No need, just prepare a few more dishes.”
“It’s just a meal. It doesn’t mean anything. Don’t take it too seriously. Just save Iverson’s face.”
“You’re really thoughtful.”
Mrs. Old Byran trimmed the branches and said lightly, “It’s a good opportunity for us to meet officially this time. I want to see what kind of person this woman is, but it’s countless that just hearing from others. I’d like to know what Iverson sees in her.”
“What else can it be? Isn’t that the tricks to seduce people?”
Mrs. Old Byran frowned, looking displeased.
Victoria immediately smiled apologetically. “I’m not saying anything bad about her for no reason. You’ve seen the news the day before yesterday. She’s divorced, but she still has unclear relationships with her ex-husband. Furthermore, I heard that she has quite a few men around her.”
“Something without any evidence.”
“Mom, look at this. Is there any evidence?”
Victoria swiped up her phone and showed Mrs. Old Byran a photo. “Look, I happened to see it yesterday when I was shopping. She was tugging with a man in public. Isn’t this shameful?”
In the photo, Amanda was held by a man and talking on the street.
Mrs. Old Byran frowned. “Who is this man?”
“It’s that woman’s lawyer. He helped her with the divorce lawsuit and is quite famous in Ducco.”
“I heard that he and Amanda are alumni. They’ve known each other for many years and have always been close.”
The look in Mrs. Old Byran’s eyes darkened.
With a loud “bang”, she put down the scissors heavily.
After watching Mrs. Old Byran leave, Victoria revealed a proud look. She picked up the scissors by the pot and cut two scissors at the blooming chrysanthemum.
“Crack!” The branches and leaves fell to the ground.
In the evening, Iverson picked up Amanda and took her to the old house.
The housekeeper had been waiting at the door for a long time.
“This is the housekeeper of our old house, as well as the old housekeeper of the Byran Family.”
The butler bowed respectfully to Amanda. “Miss Jewell, please call me Charles.”
Amanda nodded with a smile. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Charles.”
“Come in please, Mrs. Old Byran is waiting for you.”
The butler made an inviting gesture.
Amanda followed Iverson into the courtyard.
Walking together with Iverson, Amanda said, “This place seems to be quite close to Parrel Palace.”
Iverson said flatly, “Here is it.”
“Huh?” Amanda was stunned. “Isn’t that a scenic spot?”
The butler’s explanation came from behind them. “Miss Jewell is right, but only half of it is a scenic spot. Across this wall, there is the scenic spot. The entire Parrel Palace used to be the ancestral property of the Byran Family, but half of it was given away back then.”
The Byran Family’s old house was backed by the famous Parrel Palace in Ducco. It was originally a century-old inheritance of the Byran Family. In the early years, it took the initiative to donate more than half of the house under the protection of historical buildings. Now, the other half was a famous scenic spot.
Amanda’s temples throbbed violently.
She knew that the Byran Family was rich, so it was not surprising that they had a mansion in the most central part of the city, but she had never expected that this palace was their ancestral property.
“So, your family used to be part of the royal family?”
The butler said proudly, “Didn’t Young Master tell you? The ancestors of the Byran Family are members of the royal family.”
Iverson corrected him with an expressionless face. “It’s a thing of the past. That’s not the case now, it had decayed a long time ago.”
The pride on the butler’s face froze immediately. “Yes, Young Master is right.”
Amanda took a secret measurement. She thought that Iverson seemed to hold a lot of weight in the Byran Family, and no one dared to refute him.
After walking through a long corridor for more than 10 minutes, they arrived at the living room.
Before they entered, Iverson suddenly took Amanda’s hand, and stepped through the threshold together.
“Madam, Young Master, and Miss Jewell are here.”
“Hmm,” she replied in a low voice. When Amanda entered the room, the first person she saw was not Mrs. Old Byran, but Victoria. She was sitting on the sofa, holding a graceful white cat in her arms.
Before Amanda could greet her, Victoria glanced at the gift in her hand and asked, “Miss Jewell, did you bring a gift?”
