Why are you so stubborn?
The next morning, Nathan menacingly walked into his firm terrifying most of his employees. The fact that Demelza had a leash around him for his director’s mistake made him brood in anger.
“Ryan see me in my office.” Nathan said the moment he passed his work area. Everyone began to whisper amongst themselves trying to get what the situation was all about.
However, Ryan knew that he was a goner. He knew that Nathan would not forgive him for the catastrophe he had caused with his sex tape. Plus his identity was now known to his boss.
“I am sorry Mr Nathan for the trouble I have caused you,” Ryan bowed his head as he bit his lips to calm his nerves.
Nathan remained quiet for a while before he sighed and let out his intentions in a cold way that made Ryan see darkness during the day.
“I will let you fix your mistake for the meantime until the dust settles. However, know that you will no longer work here anymore. You know the rule, I don’t let a mistake slide,” he muttered, ending Ryan’s career in a chill.
Ryan pressed his lips together as he was not sure of how he would beg his boss to let him off this once. But the more he thought about it, his mind told him to remain silent as Nathan was not in the mood to say a word to a person like him.
At least, he was going to keep his secret from others and he would work for a while before he gets dismissed silently.
As he waited for Nathan to permit him to leave his presence, the sound of clicking heels walked through Nathan’s office door stunning them at once.
The way Demelza swayed her hips in the red pencil skirt she wore made Nathan gulp down uncomfortably as his eyes strayed all over her body. It was hard to miss the way her breasts were fully packaged in the white chiffon top she wore. And the ponytail that enhanced her face made Nathan wonder how possible it was for a woman to look this beautiful. Yet he could not have her as he wished.
“Good morning, Mr. Nathan. It is so good to see you this morning with your favorite employee. How are you doing Ryan?” She turned to Ryan who was shaking on his toes as he could not stand the intensive glare Nathan shot at him.
“Enough with your rude compliments Demelza. I can change my mind to help your father if you persist to annoy me any further,” he warned her and she smiled cunningly as there was no way he would risk tarnishing the image of his firm just because of her pester.
“I agreed with you. However, you have to agree not to fire him. It is not his fault that things turned out this way. He is more of a victim of circumstance. Plus you are the main reason why such a thing fell upon him,” a smile played on her lips as she taunted Nathan.
“And why would I agree to that?,” he asked, not wanting to be Demelza’s plaything because only he had that authority over her.
“Erm, it is obvious that you don’t want to tarnish your reputation in public. Firing Ryan would only arise questions that you as a person cannot answer. Reporters will grow curious and boom, the well hidden secret you have been protecting will be out in the open. I am sure that you don’t want that kind of result,” she stated her claim leaving Nathan no choice but to agree with her as he knew that her words were correct.
Ryan began to pray in his mind for the mercy that had fallen upon him. With the glance from Nathan, he took a slight bow and left his office.
“Now it is done to business,” Nathan said as he got up from the swivel chair to join Demelza on the couch she sat on but on the opposite side.
“That is nice to hear, I am glad that you decided to be of help to me”, she genuinely muttered but Nathan knew too well that he was just deceiving her to buy himself time. There was no way he was going to go behind his friend’s back and defend her father to win in court.
He was just using her then later on he would make sure that she loses the case as he promised Hampton.
“These are all the documents needed for the first procession in court. Tomorrow morning by 9am the court session shall commence. I did a little research and I discovered that your father had some dealings with the defendant. But I am not quite sure of what business he had with him. So It would be best if we go to visit your father in prison and ask him some questions concerning the matter,” Nathan stated and she listened carefully looking through all the documents he had prepared.
“I doubt my father had any business with Hampton. I was the only link that made my father known to him. Besides, my father never liked him in the first place. So what exactly are you heading?,” Demelza narrowed her eyes at him as she felt skeptical about him.
One thing she knew was that her father was a careful man and he had a lot of respect for himself. Hampton was just a red block my father didn’t like. He always argued with me when we were still on good terms and my mom would always calm him down until he stopped nagging me about Hampton.
“We should ask him first, who knows I might be correct,” Nathan firmly said, making her feel a bit uncomfortable with his idea.
She knew that Nathan could be very tricky and was very familiar with the kind of bond he had with Hampton. Even though she blackmailed him with his employees’ threesome sex tape, there was no assurance that he was genuine with his words of helping her.
“Don’t try to act smart with me Nathan. It will do you good. If you are really sure that what you said is true then I am fine with it. Let us go and pay him a visit,” she got up from the place she sat and walked towards his door.
Nathan smirked inwardly as he followed her behind. They sat in the car quietly without exchanging any form of glance.
He did not mind her silence but Demelza was not in her right state. She suddenly felt weak and nervous from the fact that she was going to visit her father.
She turned her face away from Nathan trying hard to hide her condition from him. However, the bit of sweat that formed on the temple of her head gave her off. Nathan noticed that she was suffering and slowed down his car.
“Are you okay?,” he asked, reaching out to touch her.
“I am fine,” she hit his hand away but he used his other hand to touch her forehead.
“Christ! You are burning up!” He spoke out loud making her flinch in fear.
“I said I am fine, continue your drive,” she remained stubborn but there was no way Nathan was going to let her follow him to the prison yard in such a condition.
He took a turn and decided to drive to his house which wasn’t the ideal thing to do at the moment. He thought of taking her to the hospital but he doubted that she would agree to his suggestion so he made the choice of taking her to his place.
On getting to his house, Demelza tried to get down on her own. She almost hit the ground when she stepped out but Nathan was fast enough to catch her.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Why are you so stubborn?,” he hissed and carried her into his arms. The hotness of her skin made him murmur to himself as he climbed the stairs that led to his front porch.
‘The damn woman was sick and she refused to acknowledge it. What the hell is wrong with her?’ Nathan thought in his head as he entered his house.
He went straight to his room and placed her on his bed before he went out of her presence. Demelza succumbed to the fever as she had no energy to fight it. She had been keeping it in and hiding it for a very long time. Truth be told, she had no means of buying drugs for her treatment.
Nathan reappeared again with a glass of water and a tray of different medications. He helped her sit up and brought out the dose of drugs she was to take. Demelza watched him all along trying not to cry from the painful headache he felt.
“Here, take these and you will be fine,” he presented the drugs to her and she scrunched her face and began to make a fuss.
“I don’t you I am fine now look at the amount of drugs you have wasted,” she accused and he held back his laugh as he realized her problem.
“Don’t tell me you are afraid of…,” he tried to tease but she gulped everything down to prove him wrong.
After that he went out to drop the tray in his kitchen and left her to rest for a while.
Two hours later, he went back to his room to check up on her. She was still asleep as he reached out to touch her forehead head, her eyes fluttering open.
