Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 561

Chapter 561

When Chloe heard the name Lucas, she didn't bat an eyelash. But the news about Tara refusing to eat or drink got her worried. Turning to Connor, she said, "I'll swing by later. I need to stop by the Moncada's."

Connor nodded, handing over the car keys without a second thought.

Half an hour later, Chloe pulled up at the Moncada estate. Evening had already settled in. Gordon let out a heavy sigh as soon as he saw her.

"Chloe, thank goodness you're here. The house has been a madhouse lately. What on earth is that boy thinking? We let it slide when he was messing around with that woman elsewhere, but now he's brought her home and wants to throw a wedding, inviting the whole town. He's lost it."

Chloe spent some time calming Gordon down before heading upstairs to check on Tara.

As Chloe entered, she found Tara lying in bed, letting out weak moans. At the sound of the door, Tara turned and, upon seeing Chloe, quickly sat up, her eyes lighting up with surprise. "Chloe, what brings you here?"

Then, as if remembering something, she added, "Who tattled? I told them not to bug you."

Chloe walked over, "I just missed you and wanted to see how you were doing."

A pang of emotion hit Tara. "You're doing well now, why get caught up in this mess? Just enjoy your life."

Chloe sat beside her, holding Tara's hand. "No matter what, you shouldn't mess around with your health. Godfather said you haven't eaten or gotten out of bed for days. How could I not come?"

Tara hesitated for a moment, then glanced at the door and whispered, "I was just pretending."

Chloe let out a surprised laugh. Tara opened her bedside drawer, revealing a stash of snacks packed to the brim.

"Don't you know me by now? I can't

handle that kind of hardship. If I really got sick, it'd be just what that

Chloe chuckled at Tara's defiant attitude. "Then why keep it from Godfather? He's been worried sick, sending me over to talk to you."

Tara scoffed, "Just wanted him to sweat a little. He can't even keep his own son in line."

At the mention of Lucas, Tara started wailing again. "What did I give birth to? Knowing what I do now, I would've been better off with a slab of bacon."

Chloe couldn't help but laugh. Her

bully when it suited her, a lover of status and appearances, yet with a heart as innocent and kind as a child's, sharp-tongued but soft-hearted, and the queen of drama with her crying, fussing, and threats.

"And you're laughing? I'm on the brink here."

Tara shot her a mock glare. Chloe replied, "Seeing you so lively, I can breathe easy."

Tara sighed, "I've got a lot of bitterness built up."

"Is it because Lucas is marrying Linda?"

"Did Godfather spill the beans?"

"Yeah."

Tara's anger flared. "It's bad enough they snuck off and got hitched, but now they want a big wedding, as if the Moncada family's not humiliated enough. Everyone knows he ditched you, ran off with his mistress on your wedding night, and now they're flaunting it. Linda's belly is as big as a beach ball, like they're proud of their shotgun wedding. They might not have any shame, but I do. I don't want to spend my life being the talk of the town."
