Chapter 538: How Did They Die?
Chapter 538: How Did They Die?
Jessie thinks Dahlia calls, so she answers.
"Miss Jessie." The voice doesn't belong to Dahlia or Chace.
Apparently, the call is from neither of them.
Hearing the person has clearly said her name, Jessie asks with a frown, "Who is this?"
"It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is what I am about to say." The man on the other side of the
phone chuckles. "You're having a good time in Country Y. Do you know that your uncle and aunt died
long ago?"
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Jessie snaps. "I don't know where you got my name, but I don't
know you. My uncle and aunt are alive and well. They are not your concern!"
"Miss Jessie," the man says slowly, "weren't you curious about how your uncle got beaten?"
"What do you mean?"
"It means that I know everything. I sympathize with you so I want to tell you the truth." The man pauses
for a moment, and his cold voice whispers slowly.
"You didn't know, right? Mr. Leigh gave us the address. He told us to find Charlie and ask him where
you are. Mr. Leigh also told us that to get the answer, we could do anything to force him."
The man sighs, "We didn't want to go too far, but the boss gave the order. We didn't have a choice. I
secretly sent you a text message to ask you to go there, or your uncle would be finished."
"I just didn't expect your aunt to be hit by a car. That was not our doing."
"Nonsense! Shut up! Shut up!" Jessie's hand holding the phone is trembling. She says calmly, "My
uncle and aunt are taken care of. Stay out of our business."
She hurriedly hangs up the phone, but because of the man's words, she is still panicking, afraid that
what he said is true.
Jessie wants to call Lily, but dumbfounded, she can't even remember Lily's phone number.
Holding the phone, she thinks hard. Just then, the phone vibrates again.
It's the same man's voice. "Miss Jessie, I felt sorry. I happened to know your phone number, so I called
you. If you don't believe what I just told you, you can confirm it with someone from Yorkshire."
Jessie calmly asks, "Who is Mr. Leigh?"
"Miss Jessie, stop kidding. Don't you know who Mr. Leigh is and why he sent us to your uncle's?"
Leigh Lewis?
Jessie hangs up the phone, dumbfounded, and thinks it's impossible.
Even if Leigh Lewis couldn't find her, he wouldn't be so heartless as to attack her uncle and aunt.
However, she remembers that a long time ago, Leigh Lewis threatened fiercely that if she dared to run
away, he would hurt her uncle and aunt.
"Jessie, don't think I'm joking. There's nothing I won't do!"
The man's threat still rings in her ears. A chill runs through her body. She activates her voice assistant
and calls Chace, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
She bites her finger forcefully to force herself to calm down, while waiting for Chace to answer the
phone.
"What's the matter?" From NôvelDrama.Org.
"Mr. Leon, could you ... help me investigate two people?" Jessie's voice trembles. "One is called
Charlie, the other is called ... Their ID numbers are...."
Chace senses something wrong with her tone and hurriedly asks, "Sure, I'll put someone on it right
away. Are you alright?"
"I ... I'm fine." Jessie forces herself to calm down. "If you find anything, please let me know."
Chace comforts her. "Noted. Don't panic."
At Lewis Group, Yorkshire
The capable assistant enters the president's office and says to the man busy with work, "Mr. Leigh,
there's still no clue."
"Damn it!" Leigh Lewis flares up and throws his pen at the assistant. "Is it so difficult for you to find a
woman? Useless!"
The assistant tries not to provoke him and says, "We're still looking for her. We'll find her."
"Then go find her. What are you doing here?"
"I have something to report." The assistant carefully says, "When I was looking for Miss Jessie, I
accidentally discovered that her uncle and aunt had passed away and the ashes were placed in the
funeral home."
Leigh Lewis looks at him and his expression darkens. "How did they die?"
"I heard that Miss Jessie's aunt was hit by a car and died on the spot." When the assistant sees that
Leigh Lewis is not angry, he hurriedly reports everything he finds out. "I looked into it. The neighbors
said that a group of people came to Miss Jessie's uncle's that night and beat him and his wife up.
However, the surveillance was broken and we couldn't see the faces of that group of people."
"It must be premeditated!" Leigh Lewis smashes the table fiercely and says gloomily, "Ask the police
station for help and check the surveillance of other sections of the road. Find out what happened!"
Previously, Jessie uses his phone in the middle of the night, and also transfers money. He discovers it,
but kept silent. He figures her uncle and aunt has left the country, so he pays no attention to it
anymore.
He doesn't expect the couple has died.
Because of this information, Leigh Lewis is very irritable all day. He even thinks since that woman
doesn't know that her uncle and aunt died long ago. Why hasn't she come back to Yorkshire?
Just as he is bothered, a phone call comes in.
"Leigh, see you at the club tonight!" Chace smiles and says, "I have business to discuss with you. You
will definitely be satisfied with the price!"
"Bullshit. I'm not in the mood for business!"
"Don't be like this. Even if you're unhappy, you still have to earn money. Just come for the sake of you
taking away one of my paintings."
Leigh Lewis sneered, "Damn! Didn't I pay for it?"
"It's a painting by a top master, a priceless treasure!" Chace shouted discontentedly. "Besides, I took
you that day when you got drunk. Are we buddies or not?"
"Shut up!" Leigh Lewis was so annoyed by his noise that he said impatiently, "Fine! I'll go tonight!"
Chace chuckles. "All right, my lord, I'll be waiting for you."
After finishing work, Leigh Lewis leaves the company at 7:30 and goes to the club.
Coincidentally, Chace also arrives with a few guests. He leads them to the dining hall. After reading
Leigh's text, he knows that Leigh gets there, so he leads her in and introduces him to the guests.
The guests all know Leigh. They exchange greetings with each other. After dinner, they go to a private
room to talk about business.
After hearing what they say, Leigh is quite interested in the cooperation. They discuss the details and
decide to sign the contract on Wednesday.
Then there is the fun part of eating and drinking.
After Chace talks with the guests, he goes to Leigh and winks at him. "What do you think? Am I a good
friend or not? Let's make money together. It feels great!"
Leigh sneers, "You're such a goddamn smooth-talker!"
"I treat you as a good friend. Don't you use me!" Chace puts his arm around Leigh's shoulder and says,
"As usual?"
Leigh shakes off his hand and says impatiently, "Got it!"
"To our friendship!"
Chace grins. Even if Leigh ignores him, he still clinks his glass with him.
No sooner has Chace drunk two mouthfuls of wine, the phone in his pocket vibrates.
When he takes out his phone and sees the new text message, his expression instantly changed and he
tells Leigh he needs to go out for a while.
After leaving the private room, Chace finds a quiet corner and calls Jessie back.
The call is soon answered, and Jessie's anxious voice came from the other side, "Mr. Leon, how is the
investigation going?"
